Help Safe root method for 12b?

Is there going to be a safe root method for the 12b update any time soon??? I'm trying to root my phone which is on 12b, but I can not find a method that is clear and easy to understand. Can anyone help?

There isn't going to be any saferoot method for 12b. The 12b root method involves returning to 10i firmware to backup root so you can ota upgrade to 12b and restore root.

I have a guide on my site, if you follow along it should be fairly easy...

Root and CWM Recovery

;)

Thanks for the guide, but it doesn't work for me.
On running KDZ, selected 3GQCT, mode EMERGENCY, MS50010i_00.kdz, I get an error number 64 during the firmware change. It appears to not have messed up my current firmware, so that's good at least...

I mostly want root to be able to use SD over limited local space, but I'm guessing I'll have to live with this.

Well, it worked on the second try. not sure why. I did disconnect internet, killed a bunch of apps on my pc and cross my fingers.

Now at rooted 12b.

Next step - dealing with lack of space.

It works but it's not perfect. I tried moving some larger apps to the SD partition I made, but they only partly moved. I paid for the link2sd full version with ability to move data too.

I understand this is just a front end for moving files and setting up symbolic links - kinda like "directory bind"

The problem is even though it SAYS it moved a game - say mini motor racing.
APK-44.46MB
DEX-786KB
LIB-157KB
DATA-281.35MB
OBB-141.58
Total=468.31MB
No links = 675MB free
Linking Application file, Cache, Library and Internal Data = 676MB free.

My SD's second partition (mounted as /data/sdext2) stil has over 10GB free.

According to link2sd, the APK, DEX, LIB and DATA portions were linked, but I don't see the files there. Using the "data usage" app which makes it easy to visually locate large files, I don't see it.

Another example - real racing 2.
I copied the apk from my lg motion (stupid compatibility non-issue) installed linked everything, and ran out of space during app file download.

I know you're not the author or support for the app, but perhaps you have an idea on how this can work a little better?

Thanks!

Hi GameTheory,

I apologize if you've already answered elsewhere, but I've not found it...

About the back-to-10i/OTARootkeeper/Upgrade-12b sequence. I know it works for phones that lost root because of a surprise OTA upgrade. What I am curious about is whether it also works for phones that were never previously rooted at 10i. In other words, if I buy a new phone from metroPCS that's already 12b and not rooted and has stock boot loader and stock recovery. Are there any obstacles to getting such a phone back to 10i, then rooted, rootkeepered, and then back to 12b?

I'm asking this because I'm thinking of buying a second phone.

Thanks,
Derek.

Hi Rocky - This does work for new phones that come with 12b.

I got my phone 2 days ago with 12b, and was able to roll back the firmware yesterday.

The steps aren't complex in themselves, there's just several.

Note that I got errors in the roll back, and my phone was able to turn on just fine (still with 12b).

When I retried it (it does pause for a long time during the rollback so don't kill it) I didn't get any errors and it went right through. when the phone comes up, don't install the update till after you root, and protect/hide root.

I also got my phone on 12b so glad to hear I can root it. Care to share where you got the info to do so please? thank you.

I have repeated your guide to revert to 10i multiple times now and each time it says it has finished. But when i look in the about phone area it says 12b?

I used towelroot. you can download it right from your browser on your phone. Instal it , follow instructions. It literally takes like 15 seconds. Then your phone will be rooted, and maintain new firmware. Then if you follow the instructions on how to fuse your internal/external sd card, you'll be mint. my phone shows 28 gigs available internal storage. ;)

I tried towelroot on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus (unlocked) as a test before I try it on my LG F6. It did not work. I did get a message that it may be unsafe and had a choice to run it anyway. I checked the box. No luck.

Has anyone had any luck with towelroot on an LG F6?

Towelroot works great on the Metro PCS F6 with firmware 12b.
