Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

I don't doubt that either and it only adds to what I'm saying about releasing the phone this month. The 22nd makes perfect sense, because the following weekend is Memorial Day weekend and a lot of people will be out of town. The 15th is too soon after the NYC event to let the media run with it before the phone goes on sale. Release the phone the weekend following Memorial Day and you're into WWDC where Apple will be getting all the coverage.

I'm still sticking with May 22nd. It's the only date that makes sense. Of course, this is based on the rumors that the phone is ready, but I think it is.

Bill, I totally agree that this phone should be released on that date. Hopefully on May 12 they will announce that.

as i've said before - with smartphones - Apple is on offense, not defense. they are the big dog - not the tail. they are like that big shark in the ocean that keeps moving forward and all the competition are like those little fish that swim behind and pick up the scraps. Apple is working with its own timetable and i believe it's not influenced by any external competitive forces - yet.

Haha, was just going to say that. I recognized that name. Been by there to look at their stuff for cars. It's a good place, they do good work.

Sticker City is awesome. Highly recommended for those of you (in L.A.) with a bumper you want to protect from rock chips. It's also down the street from Best Buy!:D

AMAZING!!!! I have been saying for over a week now that I feel the Evo would be coming out around or on the Prince of Persia release (May 28). This would put the Evo release at any point from right after the N.Y. event to May 28th. As I stated before I figure this time frame due to little pieces of information I have been putting together. Now with the Oprah show and the last video we just saw posted...come on! I see a lot of other people who said no way before are now seeing what I have been seeing for some time now. I REALLY HOPE IT WORKS OUT LIKE I THINK IT WILL! If this phone is not released AT LEAST by the end of May not only will I be surprised but I will also be worried. I say this due to the fact of the Galaxy S and iPhone coming. Yes the Evo is great and can stand on its own but the brainwashed masses will no doubt flock to the next iPhone even though the Evo should surpass it in several ways. JUST MY OPINION!!! :)

Someone else must agree that releasing the phone in the middle of WWDC would be a disaster??
I am not going to repost my mike tyson fight. But yes it would be a disaster.

They would do less then when they done with the pre against the iphone, which was 500,000. With Incredible, Galaxy, Nexus One, and iphone, there is just no room.

You have to strike when there is an opening. May is prefect.

Sorry, but any time else will end badly.

I wish I had one in my hands right now! But if I have to wait, I have to wait! I already know that this is the phone I want, now it's just a matter of when is it going to get here? I really don't want it to come out right now anyway, because my 1 year isn't up until June because that's when I got my Pre last year. So I'll be really ticked if it comes out before I'm able to upgrade! LOL

Too many (non kid-friendly) jokes here...LOL

Even if it does come out earlier than expected in June, you know you can ask Sprint to bump up your exact "upgrade" date right? I just did it for the 2 other lines I have on my account that are supposed to be eligible for full upgrade in August. I told them I was considering purchasing an EVO for each line and wanted to make sure that those lines would be eligible for full upgrade once the EVO is released. Sure enough, they made a note and even though it still indicates August for those accounts, they told me to just have the reps (e.g. BB, RS, Sprint, etc.) check the notes section for the full upgrade note on the account.

just had 1 gb but he said thats mainly becasue its coming with an 8gb sd card and becaue android market as of today doesnt support even the internal memory of the incredible so they saw no point in the increase storage.

This makes absolutely NO sense.

They made both the phones, so how could they "think" "oh, well it doesn't make sense so we'll put it in one phone but not the other"

The internal memory acts just like an SD card does.

It's better than nothing.

dirty, dirty drex! :p

I was afraid they wouldn't be that flexible since I can upgrade every 12 months, but I will definitely talk to them!

It might since the incredible can only take a 16gb card at max

Been noticing a bit more Sprint advertising today on TV. Must have seen 3 or 4 sprint 4g commercials in the past couple hours. Not to mention internet banners ive noticed on every techblog site =)

Android can only take 16 at max, it'll be changed to 32 soon.

The Incredible and the EVO are not that far off in terms of build.

They'll both be able to support 32GB cards, but it just doesn't make sense for this phone to not have the same if not MORE.

Companies besides Apple need to catch up in this storage game One of the proto iPhones had 80GB of storage.

80.

That's bull if it doesn't come with internal memory on top of the microsd card. The Samsung Galaxy S comes with 16gigs internal on top of a microsd slot. Didn't Jackson say it was gonna have the same amount if not more internal memory than the Incredible? WTF

The diff in the storage game is that the ipig can and does use that storage for apps where, presently, Android doesn't allow this. Lots of storage sounds great but is useless right now. When apps2sd comes into the mainstream, unrooted, then this will be a BIG issue.

eieio That is a very good observation. You have to believe that Apple is at last a little worried about Sprint's flagship device.

My opinion: I think Apple is worried, but not because of Sprint, they are concerned about HTC+Android and the success that combo has had. As soon as Android showed clear market gains and HTC showed recording setting revenues Apple attacked HTC... then Microsoft swooped in and got some coin out of HTC... Apple is smart and tough, but Microsoft was brilliant with a move that makes them money now and protects their investment in HTC from Apple's lawyers. Android is gaining some serious ground. Apple wants to be #1 and a mile ahead of anyone else, but given Androids current trending they could catch up, and even overtake (in a year or two) Apple's current lead. I am not discounting Sprint's contribution as the carrier of the only 4G network, I'm just saying that the carrier in not that big of a factor, the factor is HTC+Android.

Be nice; just sharing some thoughts:D

They get there flyers 3 or 4 weeks in advanced. I wouldn't be surprised if BB has flyers already in there stores for the week of May 22nd.

You know this how?

BB may get the flyers early, but they are not distributed to store level until the week before release. We didn't get anything about the Incredible until the week before. We still have nothing about the EVO either in flyers, employee news, or our inventory. We have had a couple of teasers in the news, but they are just little ads showing off the specs. The last one just said that it was 4g and a wifi hotspot, nothing else.

Best Buy employees at store level will not know anything until the week before. I'm sure corporate knows something, but they won't tell us. I don't even find out what is on sale next week until the Sat. before.

How the hell is it useless?

I had plenty of apps on my iPhone and had TONS of room left over for media.

If I could get a ton of storage on my phone, THEN, I might actually be willing to ditch my iPod.

I mean, who am I kidding. iPod batteries last WAY longer than any smartphone will, but it would be nice to have all my music on there incase I wanted it.

Best Buy ads are typically out a week in advance to look at online on slickdeals.net and sometimes out even two weeks before....hopefully a leak of an ad comes out in the next couple weeks :)

I'm not saying anything about getting news about EVO that early. Just saying about the flyers. I am a Retail Manager and we get flyers weeks before they come out.

I'm talking at store level and only at BB. Yes, you can go online and get info. My point is, corporate doesn't tell the store level sales staff anything until the last minute. The flyers are usually distributed from our warehouse to the stores the week before. When we do get some non ematerials (i.e. paper information), it will mean the release is right on top of us.

I checked inventory yesterday before I left, still no sign of EVO. I don't go back until Monday, hopefully I will have some good news.

LOL...Hey, your words, not mine ;) And now you're talking about "flexible?"

hahaha...Back on topic here. I just mentioned that I'm considering the EVO for purchasing on all 3 lines once it's released and they automatically said they'd indicate the 2 lines (that had August dates) on their "notes" that they'd be eligible for full upgrade when the EVO is released.

KRD, I could be the one confused here, but I do believe that the Incredible does support 32GB microSDHC cards, and therefore Android does support 32GB cards. The only limitation currently is that Android can not format a 32GB card, but that is just a minor issue as cards usually come formated and there is a tool to format these cards on your PC. No disrespect, I just want to make sure this particular issue is clearly stated so that others reading this for the first time don't get confused.

Cited article (see the update):
Android Can't Format 32 GB Storage Cards Yet

"Update: Android can't format the cards but can still accept them."

There are also other more complete articles on this issue from other reputable web sources.

Update: KRD, I see that you are correct about the Droid Incredible only supporting 16GB.
