Help Animated GIFs not playing in browser

I thought it was a bit curious that they wouldn't and I was wondering if there was a setting somewhere I was missing.
 
I don't think they work in the stock browser. On my Droid with a custom ROM I can see them but I know the browser is heavily modified.
 
Annoying isn't it?! You can save the image and view it with the gallery program, and it'll play through one cycle (treats it as a movie). Kinda defeats the most common uses of animated gifs though...
 
Yeah that kind of sucks. A pretty MINOR complaint though as I am otherwise thrilled with the phone.

Yeah - This is how the National Weather Service stores some of their radar animations too, I've was trying to use Tasker to automate the downloading of these radar images and displaying 'em in the gallery viewer, but the I realized it was easier to just use the weather channel app ;) (and have the whole shebang scalable, layerable and zoomable on a google maps framework)...

there are a few good weather apps with animated radar in the market. I like weatherbug elite.
 
It's all in the libwebcore. I pulled this from CM. It has V8 in it, so it improves browser performance, but disables use of epocrates, among other things. Here it is. Just push this to /system/lib, and voila! gifs work! Root users only

I know I was shocked when I switched from BB to Android and found this out. Who would have ever thought?:eek:

Small price to pay though for moving from BB to Android. I actually think animated GIF in the browser is the only thing BB has over Android! :D
