Favorite Robin Williams Role

Unforgiven

...eschew obfuscation...

I was on the way home from Boston tonight when I got the stunning news about Robin Williams. The radio station was talking about their favorite roles he played.

I know there is a greif and condolences thread, so let's leave that one as is:

Let's talk about the wide range of roles he's played from Mork to Mr. Doubtfire, Jumanji, or his rib ripping stand up routines.

I'm at a toss up between Goodwill Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam for my favorites. Anyone else?

Mork in that Happy Days episode. I always found his spin-off series, Mork and Mindy boring, none of those nuances seen in Happy Days existed in the series.

OMG, I forgot about that.
I think there are too many to consider. I dearly love Good Will Hunting, it's one of my favorite movies, period. A friend reminded me about Moscow on the Hudson, also a terrific film. Awakenings, another terrific drama (and a great job by DeNiro as well).

He was such a versatile actor I'd hate to try and lock it down to just one.

Clearly you're also a fan, so if you have time please check the link I posted in the RIP thread about his appearance on "Inside the Actor's Studio." It's a brilliant display of his personality and versatility. Just a remarkable talent silenced by mental health issues.

I will. I saw the link but have had a day so I'm saving in depth reading for tomorrow.:)

Though not one of his roles people remember him by, the nostalgia for him playing Peter Pan opposite of Dustin Hoffman's Captain Hook was pretty sweet if you ask me.

What dreams may come, has always stuck with me for the story line....sadly about his wife killing herself and him having to try and rescue her because of where she went!

Flubber also though as I was in the targeted age group when it came out :-)

Brilliant actor all round as well as fantastic stand-up, will be sadly missed!

Watching the news this morning I was reminded of Aladdin. Another role where he owned the role, even though he was only the voice.

I haven't seen many of his movies. But jumanji was by far my favorite movie as a kid.

I also enjoyed the movie where he played as the robot that fell in love and became a human.

All of them?

It occurs to me that in every role, there is always this underlying angst that he's trying to resolve.

Genie is immediately who comes to mind when I think of Robin Williams. I didn't know until just recently that he was actually replaced by Dan Castellaneta(Homer Simpson) for Return of Jafar and the tv series, but returned to the role for King of Thieves.

Jumanji was great. The robot movie is Bicentennial Man. I really liked it too.

I also enjoyed RV because my family has a motorhome so there was a lot to relate to.

It has been interesting to hear different people talk about how they remember him. I heard the news on sports talk radio and the first thing the guy brought up was Mork and Mindy. My daughter said Jumanji...

I first saw him doing stand up in the 80's and I thought (knew) he was the funniest man alive.

But if I had to name a movie that simply *WAS* Robin Williams and my earliest movie memory...

(and you have to say it like this)

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNING VIETNAM!!!!!!!!!!!!

August Rush and any movie where he played a 'bad guy' just never appealed to me. his character just was so unfitting for the villain role. i suppose most of that is due to the fact he's always been a friendly guy in any other role he played.
