Root Most Stable ROM for ZTE Awe N800?

Hi everybody,

I just ordered a ZTE Awe N800. I'm sure I will want to root it and/or install custom firmware first thing. I'd like to know what is the most stable/dependable ROM available currently, from your collective experience.
Is rooted stock the best option currently?

Any response is greatly appreciated.
 
L awe is the most stable hands down and v2.9a moonshine because they're stock based . They both look great especially L . CM based roms like carbon and pac have bugs like camera issues and tethering not working . The others have overclocking kernels and I don't recommend overclocking these phones . I use L awe myself and so does my son . Try one of those out . You don't even have to root if you use the stock install based version , just follow the included instructions . Good luck and post your results .

Most stable are stock 4.1.2 based roms such as my "L" Awe or Moonshine, i would wait till next week if u choose my "L" Awe as a little birdy told me an update is coming;) the 4.4 roms are still a little buggy... Root is not required to install a rom or recovery... Im gonna make a read b4 root thread in near future with a list of options and then easiest method to achieve that option:)
 
L from my experience, and is what I keep coming back to. It's just got loads of features, style (you wouldn't believe its still Android 4.1) and is stable.

Also I think overclocking is hit or miss with these phones. Some phones don't like it, and others like mine stay stable even after clocking to 1.9. For battery saving purposes however for most things I have the second core turned off (thanks to L's settings :)) and run the first core at 1.35 unless I'm gaming. No problem with power lasting all day and smooth performance.

BTW welcome. These phones are ineed AWEsome.

Thanks for all of your responses. It sounds like the consensus is that the L ROM is the most stable available and feature rich custom firmware at this time.

I don't even have the phone yet, so I have no frame of reference in regard to the usability of the factory default firmware out of the box. My experience with previous Virgin Mobile phones, is that they are basically crippled to the point that they are unusable out of the box.

I am familiar with, and am a big fan of the CyanogenMod-based ROMs, as that is what I have on all of my other devices. I don't want to sacrifice stability and features for familiarity, however.

It is good news to me, to read that the installation process of aftermarket firmware seems to be relatively painless on this device. In the past, I have used Clockwork or similar bootloader to install ROMs.

Do the installers for L and similar firmware have an option built in to the stock-based-installer to create a backup? In general, I think that is good practice to make a backup of the factory default configuration.
Additionally, is the ACTIVATE.APK included with any of these or available elsewhere for install? This is something I've disastrously failed to consider in the past.
 
L is pretty much the way to go. the dev has been super on top of things and is always responsive and taking requests.

I am still looking for someone to get back to me about my most recent update to AWEsome yet, and it should be stable as stock...but it doesnt have all the flashy bells and whistles people seem to admire. however, no disgruntled feelings here as 'L' is amazing!

I ran ur awesome ROM and it was rock solid and one thing it has that l awe doesn't have is MMS in the stock messaging app. In my opinion all the Roms are solid. Thank you to all devs for ur hard work

Yes it does. We elected to use Hangouts as the stock messaging application, keeping inline with the new stock Google builds. It has MMS/SMS and IM with merged thread capabilities. Besides it works just as well if not better than stock MMS plus 2 messaging applications seems redundant and a waste of space and resources. :)
 
brittnearl based roms run very well as they are based on stock rom. tried the variants like cm11,pac,etc and some work ok with minor issues. some wont install at all like slimkat...symlinks issue for that one. and to me plain old stock rom debloated with your own custom mods works better than anything available. you can fully debloat and remove all google related items without borking anything. and its lighting fast.
 
I'm interested in going to a custom ROM too but I have a couple of questions...

Will a new ROM like "L" prevent me from getting "enhancement" nags from the phone company?

Will a new ROM let me fire up wifi tethering without using the Wifi Tether app? The app is buggy and I'd love to ditch it. (for example, after deactivating the hot spot your phone loses wifi until you reboot it.)
 
I'm using paranoid android ROM it has built in WiFi tethering it doesn't heat up ur device and u won't get the dumb updates from service provider cus there's nothing to update latest KitKat
