Help my note 3 shuts off when the screen times out

Hi, My note 3 was working perfectly fine until today. It was in my purse and when I went to take it out to use it I noticed it coming back on so naturally I was waiting for it to come back on and started talking to a friend of mine while I waited for it to load up and when I clicked the home button, because the screen was off it loaded it again..and then it continued to go off and back on.. it took me a minute to realize it only shut off when the screen timed out.. I could use the phone as long as I started touching the screen before it timed out.. but I couldn't talk on the phone because when I would put the phone to my ear and the screen went off the phone also shut down... can anyone tell what causes this and if it can be fixed... by the way, I have taken the battery out multiple times both when the phone was on and off... I will try a factory reset but I am now moving all my files to my sd card so I don't lose them... but I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this and if it is fixable? thanx in advance

I was gonna first say that somehow your buttons managed to he pushed perfect in your purse. After reading further that wasn't the case.

I don't know what could be happening.

If you do the reset. You back everything up via Google or Kies I believe. Saves all the finger work. Then when you power back up you can select back up and restore.
