HTC One M8 questions

Hello folks, I hope you can give me your advise and answers to my questions. I am shopping for a new phone and was considering the Galaxy Note 3 and now favoring the HTC One M8. I like the Note 3 for the larger display but am not a fan of TouchWiz and the single speaker on bottom of the phone. The camera is not too important to me as I have not taken many pictures in the last year on my current Galaxy S4.
I do appreciate a good speakerphone loudness and quality as I enjoy watching Youtube videos a lot. That is where I am reading the One M8 excels at. I also would like to hear comments on how the call quality is with speakerphone on or off with a regular call.
I use the AT&T carrier if that makes any difference. I had pretty much made up my mind on getting the HTC One M8 and forgetting the Note 3, mainly due to the Note's crappy speakers. I hate the rear speaker on my Galaxy S4 for that same sort of reason.

Now just a moment ago I read that there is a HTC One M8 Eye version rumored to come out possibly Oct. 8 2014. Supposed to have a slightly larger display with 13MP camera. Even though I do not use the camera much that rumor has me wanting to wait and see if this is true or not. If I can get this device with the same excellent speakers and display as the HTC One M8 I would feel foolish in purchasing the M8 before this date.

What do you guys think? Should I wait for the possible better version or go ahead and get the M8? Also if this version does come out how long is it before reviews for it are posted by the press?

Like I stated before phone call quality is important to me especially using speakerphone. Is the call quality good on AT&T network?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Kirk Out :D

My advice? Wait for the event and see what HTC has to offer. The M8 Eye looks to no longer be just a rumor, and if the camera is better it will be well worth it.

I've heard its basically an M8 with an upgraded camera.

That's insane. Kind of hard to choose an iPhone 6 now for some folks. I hope next year they bundle everything into one lovely package so HTC can turn more profit. I like cheering for the little companies.

So next year can we expect an HTC M9 with Harmon & Kardon speakers, an 8 MP front camera and a 13 MP rear camera with no impact to battery life? Call me a whiner guys but why not put all these items into one phone? Or is HTC baiting in new customers and they will create the iPhone killer phone next year? Sounds like they have listened to customer complaints. Last question is will low light pictures look horrible now since the camera size will go from 4 to 13?

The speakers are a feature I always forget about but thoroughly appreciate when they are on. They are amazing!

The next question I will ask, are you going to root or ROM the device? If you are I would imagine the M8 will have the better development support. If not, wait and see what HTC has up their sleeve :thumb:

I don't think I can live without my speakers. I didn't take ear buds to the gym because I had forgotten to bring a pair. I just turned the volume up and I could hear everything as clear as day while riding the exercise bike. Those speakers are that great in a noisey gym.

Not planning on rooting the phone as currently do not have the knowledge or skills to do that. I hear that Sense is so much smoother than TouchWiz that I have not learned enough about rooting. I like the idea of a slightly larger display (5.2 in.) as my eyes are bad and hopefully a larger mp camera would be an added bonus for me. As long as speaker quality remains the same.

Can anybody comment on the phone call quality on internal speakers? Is volume loud enough and clear sounding? Also does the radio work well on pulling in stations when I have the itch to listen to some oldies? Also I hope the battery life would not suck with larger display and improved camera. Perhaps the battery may be a little larger. Have to see. After reading about the HTC One M8 Eye I must wait until Oct. and see what this may offer. Still appreciate your comments guys as I hope to purchase a variant of the HTC One M8 in near future. Live long and prosper! Kirk Out :D

I am always using speaker phone but not using it will suffice. The m8 is perfect volume wise and you will find yourself turning it down more if you switch from speaker phone to normal speaker volume. That's until the person on the other side of the line creates a problem. For example not having their phone close enough to their face when speaking.

Go into a store and mess around with the M8. I always hear these complaints about TouchWiz, but I don't understand why. Sense 6 is not much different.

The hardware on the M8 is amazing. Side by side with my wife's Note 3, the radio on my M8 is better...but I have to tell you, I really miss the features of the Note 3. I want my S-Pen back.

If I never had the Note 3 in the first place, I would probably keep this phone for the long haul, but since the Note 4 and Edge are out next month...

The problems I've had on the S3 and seen on the S4 was lots of lag. Opening contacts or gallery would take up to 2-3 seconds, it wasn't the phone as the moment I change over to AOSP it disappeared. Home screen refreshing, very poor multitasking and most importantly, looks like it had been designed by a 5 year old who's favourite colour happened to be green :D

The YouTube and camera app are the slowest apps to open on the phone. Two apps I hardly ever use. When I say slow I mean like 2-3 seconds.
