What happens if Sprint does not drop the release date or pricing info on May 12th??

Are you guys going to be mad??

i said earlier that if they dont announce a price and release date its going to piss a lot of people off. its what most of us are waiting for and are the major points for people on the fence whether or not to switch carriers.

Only the people who take speculation as fact will get mad.

If you come to terms with reality and realize that everything stated on the internet from an un-official source is pure speculation you will never be disappointed.

There's nothing to get mad about. When the phone becomes available I'm sure you'll be handing over your cash with a huge smile on your face. I don't expect all the mad folks to go over to Verizon and jump on the other HTC phone a few weeks short of the EVO launch!

Hmmm...A buddy of mine reminded me that E3 is from June 15-17 (in Los Angeles)
E3 Expo: June 15-17 2010

Since the EVO should be out by then, anybody think that they'll be announcing the 2.2 update for the EVO by then? It's another major electronic platform to push the EVO 4G and the expanding WiMax/4G coverage. Seems like pretty good timing to me.

Sprint plans Evo 4G's party for May 12 in New York City | Android Central

The Sprint HTC Evo 4G is set for its big coming-out party on May 12 in New York City. And as with the Evo's cousin, the Windows Mobile-powered HD2, it looks like movies are going to play a big part of the device -- so much so that Sprint's giving an advance screening of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," ahead of its Memorial Day release. And if the thought of two hours of Jake Gyllenhaal in a loin cloth isn't exciting enough, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse's also going to be on hand for the big event.

This makes me believe something will be said. Why else would Hesse himself be there? We're expecting an announcement on WiMAX as well, which is supposed to be turned on and ready for the event.

Also, Jackson has promised us to expect an announcement concerning the release date to be announced at the event as well.

Well one of the reasons why Hesse will be there is because its NYC. One of the biggest cities in the US. One that will have its Wimax turned on for a phone that utilizes the new network. If he is not there, it would be a big mistake.

As for the other stuff, eh, whether they announce the EVO or not or any plans or not, is all speculation. We should not get upset if nothing happens that day. It would be great but I am not going to get my hopes up since no date was ever confirmed.

How do you know that? Is that a fact? :D

Ok so we have heard Bills, mine and a few others that said that May 22-23 maybe the date the Phone drops and given some arguments as to why..

If you don't believe in that date and think its going to be later/summer why do you think that?

I picked summer, not going into late or early summer, but the reason behind it was/is because that's all the official information we've been given. Honestly as I've said before anything before that wouldn't be a tragedy but I'm not going to set myself up for something that might not come.

There has been two dates tossed around June 6 or 13 that never came from sprint.. They were said to have been leaked dates by people at sprint on a few of the tech blogs..

Yes but again, nothing came directly from Sprint.

It was speculated that these dates came from people at Sprint, but the only date that has publicly come from a Sprint source and is still openly advertised is Summer of 2010. Anything that comes before that is a blessing but for now I'm not getting my hopes up.

This is true and the EVO Blog contest ends in August if I remember correctly..

words to live-by....in forum-land.

anyways, so what if the big announcement is that the Evo was all a hoax and that Sprint is actually releasing an iphone 4g?

*runs for cover*

My guess: Labor Day 2010 or later.

Why: Because God is punishing me and he knows that I'm waiting ever so impatiently for the EVO to get launched. Then I can get my first smartphone (moving from ENV2), additionally I'll have the best phone that will be available, also a less expensive cell plan by about $50 to $60 than I am currently on with Verizon, and last but not least, a new way to waste hours a day messing with my phone. :D

I'll keep hoping for an early launch date, but all that does is set me up for disappointment. :(

i said earlier that if they dont announce a price and release date its going to piss a lot of people off.

I think we often make the "echo chamber" mistake here. While this forum is chomping at the bit, like a lot of other Android/cell phone/Sprint forums or Facebook pages, the vast general public is either completely oblivious to the Evo or any of this stuff.

I know it's a shock what with hearing all these arguments and debates about leaked info and whatnot but unless you work in a techie field, I would bet that most of the people you asked at work or around the dinner table would have either passing knowledge gained from a banner ad or none at all.

Most people wait until either their contract is up or some blockbuster device like the iPhone or Droid comes out and really makes a splash. Then they go to their carrier's store, check out the models on display, and look at the price tags. Until the ads start and people start carrying them around, not many people will give a crap about the Evo or any other upcoming phone. We aren't the norm :)

And even as much as we are getting psyched, what are you gonna do if this phoen comes out in June? or July? Go get pissed off and go buy a competitor's phone to somehow get back at Sprint? Why cut off your nose to spite your face? If you want the Evo, then wait for it to come out and go buy it. If you absolutely need a smart phone now then go buy whatever is the best thing out now.

I'm as psyched as anyone and I love new gadgets. Computers and tech are a hobby of mine but I also have a job, a girlfriend, a dog, a social circle, a family, etc. I won't be getting pissed off if I have to wait until the end of May or the middle of June or whatever. I suggest we all do the same :D

I say June 6, simply because of the history of EVP ordering and the calendered "discounts" for Sprint. I remember, before the Touch Pro and Touch Diamond were released, there was an actual schedule for the current discount prices on Sprint.

EVP's currently scheduled discounts end on June 5. June 6 is when they'll have the "new" schedule of "promotional" pricing, so it just seems like good timing for them to be able to add the EVO in conjunction with all the current phones on the Sprint roster.

That said, I have absolutely NO clue if that dictates anything regarding the EVO or if it will have any impact at all. That just seems identical to how it was when I got my Touch Pro. I really hope the schedule of current phone pricing has absolutely no connection to the EVO's release.

Maybe someone that works with Sprint can clarify how the scheduling works and if it has any effect on new phone releases? I know that back when I was waiting for the Touch Pro, Sprint also had a schedule for "promotional pricing" much like EVP.

So far eieio, you and I have been the only ones to give reasons why we are speculating on May 22nd. Jackson is still standing on a June release, but I don't believe he was speculating. If I remember right, he said it's a fact and in my book, facts are pretty hard to dispute, so he could be right.

I am actually shocked at how many people do know about this phone, that are non-techie..

This phone is going to be launched, to Major Industries, Business and Gov etc.. A lot of people will be exposed to this phone..

On the week that Engadget broke this phone the replies were like nothing I had ever seen on that site in a short amount of time..

This phone has literally been written about by any one with a Website/Blog/forum and a keyboard

That's another reason I actually like the June 6 date (and trust in the information provided by Jackson). EVP deals with employees of large corporations. Considering the industry I'm in, I have to think there's some significance to the timing.

The thing is, I'm always a proponent of schedules changing for multiple reasons. If Sprint has the ability to launch the phone earlier than originally planned, I see no reason for them to hold back, just because of a pre-determined "schedule" that might have been over-estimated. Obviously, with the rumors about the iPhone and whatnot, if they're ready to go early, I'm all for it.
