Screen timeout?

Without rooting, is there an app or some way to make the screen time out at a different time than the screen lock activates? My S4 could do this. All I want is the screen to time out when I want (30 seconds, 1 minute, etc) but the SCREEN LOCK to happen 30 minutes or more later or instantly with the power button. This is my biggest pet peeve after having my old S4.

Did you look under Settings - Display & Gestures - Screen Timeout on your phone? You do realize swiping up on the phone when the screen is blank or off completely negates the lock screen? If you go under Settings - Security - Screen Lock - and when you setup a locking mechanism like a pin it will ask you when you want the screen to lock.

I don't like the swipe thing, even on the S4 I've always used physical buttons to wake my phone. I've never liked that but I will look.

I'm just saying that there is a reason the power button is on top to turn the screen on. It's because HTC allowed the phone to be used with one handed gestures so you don't have to reach for the power button. All phones to include Apple need these screen off features. Stops you from wearing out a power button too.

If the phone is truly quality, the buttons will all last 2 years minimum.

Did you not read my first post?

I did read it. I don't think it solves my problem though. Let me simplify it. I want two things. #1 : I want to be able to set my screen to time out in a minute or less, but the phone to NOT lock when it does. #2: I want a "lock instantly with power button" option with my #1 still in effect.

That's something HTC would have to program into the phone. Don't think any apps could help you out man.

Unfortunately, that's about the only useful thing (for me) that touchwiz did. Otherwise it was a bunch of tap phones together and wave in front of it and crap

I know you miss Samsung. I'm just hoping the next HTC flagship has Harmon & Kardon speakers, a 13 MP camera, and split screen. I'll be extremely happy. Time for HTC to prove they know what they are doing. Put everything nice together I'm one package.

I don't miss much about it. I miss buttons that aren't on screen (and sometimes become invisible), what I mentioned, and a few UI tweaks. The M8 is very fast and doesn't lag, although I realize it's only fair to compare it to an S5 not S4. The camera is fine, does just as well as anything I've used. It's super fast and sharp, but I don't like how I had to use tooth paste and a cotton swab to buff the scratched coating off the lens. Here is what I want. A phone with the speakers of the M8 along with premium metal and glass body. The IP67 of the S5, accessory choices of the iPhone, price of the Moto G, 2 year (free) complete warranty that offers unlimited in store replacements of new units like the old VZW days, 2 day battery life even in bad signal areas or with heavy use, 32 GB internal storage with micro SD slot (like my M8), and have off screen buttons but no physical home button. I want a home button (that will open task manager if long pressed), on the left a back button, and on the right an options button.

We have the same wish. I doubt HTC could keep up with the demand.

No phone company is ever going to give us all the goodies in one phone...if they did what could they come up with next so that we would spend more money? They already have the next three versions ready to go on paper for the next 3 years!
