Help iphone earbuds

i have iphone 5c earbuds. when i try to use them on my volt they dont work. how can i get them to work?

Yea headphones are headphones and if they don't work, either they're broken or your input is broken

from what I understand, android and apple rig the 3 rings on a headphone jack just different enough that buttons don't work between the 2. Didn't think the sound part of headphones would break though.
