Glad it works for you... lemme know if you break the fix so i can try and isolate exactly what breaks it

The only thing stopping me from switching to those aftermarket SMS apps completely is the fact that none of them support visual voicemail it seems.
When I use my regular sms app, I think it intercepts the odd texts that have the 408 number and turns it into the visual voicemail notification. It's a really hacked up thing Sprint did but that's how it works - your visual voicemail app is just a frontend to dialing some area code 408 number and presenting you with whatever it finds there (something like that).
With aftermarket apps, whenever I get a voicemail, I get a really odd looking text and no visual voicemail notification. Need a different solution.

Ok help a brother out. Here's the deal. I have installed CHOMPSMS and disabled the notification settings in the old MESSAGE program. I am using TASK MANAGER, I went in to process' and disabled the old message program that was still listed there. I went to my contacts, selected someone and chose CHOMPSMS as the default to send with opened it up and sent a txt. But still my hero says 100% up time if I hit end, wait a few minutes then fire it up and check. Also note that I have fully rebooted several times to no avail. I have never seen anything other than 100% up time since I got this phone 2 weeks ago.
Any help is appreciated.
Handcent did not help.
Programs:
3gtest, A online Radio, Androlib Wallpapers, ASrevolution, Audio Manager, Barcode Scanner, ES File Explorer, Flashligt, FX Camera, G-tuner, Gmail, Gmote, Handcent, Hi-Hiker Pro, imeem mobile, iRadio, Layar, Listen, Locale, Maverick, Metal Detector, Movies, myNPR, NESOID lite, Opera Mini, Pandora, Phoneflicks, PureRSS, Quick Unistall, Scoreboard, ShopSavvy, SleepTimer, Sports Tap, Task Manager, Transdroid, Unit Converter, Wapedia, WarDrive, Where, Wifi Analyzer
Ok I just removed a bunch of things that I figure might be doing something in the background just to screw with me. I am trying everything I can think of and I will update as progress is made or frustration is increased. Also, can you elaborate on the 100% CPU issue you mentioned earlier about letting it go into sleep by itself after reboot?
Thanks.
nothing still 100% no matter what I seem to do. Locale is uninstalled, Handcent is default. At a loss here.
Yea i suppose at this point I dont have a lot to loose. are my contacts automatically backed up or can I do that through gmail?

Ok I am going to reset it. Let me see if I got this right. Right after I come back up I am going to download handcent, then disable the notifications in the old txt software. then I am going to reboot and select a contact to txt selecting handcent as the new default. Correct?
My phone is still running at 100% cpu usage ? everytime I try and go into manage applications , it pops up and says " Sorry ! The application settings has stopped unexpectedly, please try again " ? does this every single time ?? Any ideas ??Indeed HTC is working on a fix for these issues, but here is what You can do to fix the application in the mean time.
I was getting 2 hours "Heavy" (texting, data, wifi, high brightness) use before.
I read somewhere that there it is a battery issue caused by the defaul HTC (or android, idk) application.
The work around is for sms to something other than the included app as the default action for text messaging.
This is accomplished installing another handcent sms or various other apps that you may find by going to the market and searching SMS.
after installation go to the contacts list and send a text to a contact.
A screen should pop up and ask which messaging app you would like to use.
If i does not ask you, then you should go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> It will take a minute while your phone computes the space taken up by each app.
Click Messages> and Tick Clear defaults if it is available.
Viola! substantial battery boost and faster charges.
you can verify that your phone is now using less power by rebooting
then shut of your screen by pressing the end key wait for 1-5 mins mins without touching it...
now quickly
settings> about phone> status all the way at the bottom your phones "Awake Time" (not up time) should be below %40 (mine is between 10-40%) day to day
if this is not the case your phone has other issues and I will try my best to help you out
I have also heard that by letting you device go to sleep immidiately after turning it on it enters a weird device state that causes %100 cpu usage.
though i cannot confirm this i always flip to the next screen and back a few times and check my twitter and what not to make sure... hope this helps
I am so glad for android to be on sprint. Maybe HTC will actually provides updates and make my $279 woth it.
they certainly F-'d up the touch pro bad enough... lol i wonder if i can get my $400 back for it xD

glad we got that straightened out... so it looks like another app set something or other,,,Ok, it appears that a factory reset did the trick. Thanks for your help with this, its good to have someone to run down a freaky one with. After doing the steps then waiting about 3 minutes I got 58% listed. This is an improvment over the constant 100% and I imagine that number will get to where it should be after me watching the rest of the NLCS and letting this thing cool down from my constant tinkering tonight. Thanks again!

BTW: This was all before I did the voicemail upgrade which I am doing now.
I really dont want to do a factory reset of the phone , I have it setup just the way I want it , yes this is so frustrating . I just love this phone , by far the best phone I have ever had !! My previous before this was the Palm Pre ( I still own it ) this phone is far better . Any other ideas ? I insytalled the hancet sms, it works great , like it better than the one the phone came with
My only recommendation is to really look at what applications you've installed. If you're like most people that get a new gadget (me included) you go a little nuts trying new things, and with a new phone like this playing with new apps is one of those things. Check the settings of any apps that would do anything on any kind of schedule. Anything that checks for updates online, changes your phone settings at specific times or when things happen. Use programs like Advanced Task Killer and Taskiller to see which programs are actively running that aren't part of the core system.
What probably happened when the other person did the factory reset is it cleared all his apps, so whichever one was keeping the phone from sleeping was removed.
