Hey guys, I'm moving root-related chatter out of the general forum to keep things clean for those who do not root.
I will fill this full of useful info about the update as time allows :0
EDIT1:
So there are some huge changes to the rooted lollipop world. First of all, we know the from the Nexus 9 the OTA update system now checks the entire system and treats it as 1 thing rather than checking each individual thing it patches. You used to be able to get away with accepting the OTA while rooted but ANY modifications to /system will now cause the OTA to fail, even root itself**.
**Note - this is currently not the case for the nexus 5 for this update, but may be going forward. Thanks for the heads up jj14x. The nexus 5 is currently still checking each patch individually.
For those flashing the factory images, its suggested to fully decompress everything and flash each one manually (fastboot flash X Xfilename.img). People are having issues flashing system when using the flash all script.
The Lollipop stock rom - like previous stock roms - will overwrite a custom recovery on boot. Flashing the correct SuperSU zip usually solves this by overwriting the file with the needed files to run SU at boot. Otherwise be prepared to flash recovery before attempting to use it.
Latest beta:
SuperSU Download
Latest stable:
SuperSU Download
Speaking of root - right now lollipop requires a modified boot.img (kernel) in order to obtain root access. The one-click tools should be updated to support this already. Make sure you are using the latest tools.
