Black Friday (actually Thanksgiving) $39.99 at Radio Shack

In the United States Radio Shack will have the LG Volt for Boost Mobile and Sprint at $39.99 on Black Friday (starting on Thursday the 27th). Radio Shack will be open on Thanksgiving from 8 am to Noon and 5 pm to midnight (at least in my area).

Unfortunately the Virgin Mobile LG Volt will not be going on sale.

My local store has 6 for Boost Mobile and 2 for Sprint in stock, and was nice enough to set aside one for me.

Thanks to the other closed post I found out about the Kmart price (same as Radio Shack). But as I signed up for the my way rewards program I got an $8.00 credit. And bought it online with free ship to store. No lines for me! With local tax and using the $8.00 credit I paid out of pocket just under $35.00!

Also Kmart's online system is not that sharp, It is about 1:40 am Thursday at my home in Arizona, but the online system gave me the sales price, that is not really in effect till later today. With free ship to store I can pick it up on the weekend.

I did the same thing about 2 years ago when I bought my Galaxy Prevail from Kmart on a "Black Friday: kind of online thing for about $35.00. So I tried and it worked again this year. I love sloppy programers in this case!!!

I will wait a little and sell the old phone. It is almost mint condition.. I keep as a MP3 player and a free VOIP wi-Fi phone using Groove Ip and Ring.to.

Just ran to RS and picked up 2 (for the kids) Was hoping they would be on ZV3, but they are on ZV4 (not that i care, like i said its for my kids)

So if you need root, youre gonna have to downgrade to ZV3, root and then install the Debloated ZV4 rom

Are they really on sale already?

I looked at the ad and found out there was two times. Supposedly they opened again at 5 and I went to two local stores and they were both closed, then I found out the closest one that was going to be open was a few miles away. I found out the sales were online too not just in store so I just ordered it online because I didn't wanna miss the sales at the other stores and by the time I got to the other stores they some how sold out of the TVs I wanted before they even opened!

You can order this online as well. Free shipping and handling. If you purchase from the store you'll recieve a $10 off next purchase coupon. Personally, I bought one yesterday and picked up the sd card that's on sale as well. Gonna need one that size for this phone. However I've not been able to root or downgrade. So disappointed on that.

I got my Volt for $39.99 and have started fooling around with it as a WiFi only device and plan to activate it in a day or so.

The amusing part was crowds at Radio Shack vs. Wal-Mart. Radio Shack was open from 8 am to 12 pm, and from 5 pm to midnight. The first 50 customers would get capacitive gloves for free. Since my phone was reserved, I hadn't planned on going there until 7 pmish, so I didn't expect to get the gloves. It turned out that I was the 43rd customer(!) I felt sorry for the workers, being there so many hours without that many customers.

The bonus was the Radio Shack was in an out-parcel for Wal-Mart and had plenty of parking. It was *far* easier to leave my car there and walk a very short distance to Wal-Mart which was a nightmare.

Unfortunately the firmware is V4, so I'm planning on waiting a couple of weeks and using the phone as-is before rooting it and adding my favorite root utilities.

I just bought the Sprint Prepaid version of the LG Volt for $39.99 at Radio Shack. I told them it was a gift for my mother, and there was no problem. They sold it to me without activation. I activated it on Ting immediately after I got home and it's working great! Also, I used this $100 Ting credit before activating. That's about 3 or 4 months of free service for me. Black Friday has been good to me this year! :D

Ting certainly has an interesting pricing setup...not sure if I would benefit though. I don't understand how they can take Sprint phones, but can't take Boost or VM. I mean, they're all Sprint network.

Yeah, I think some of these phone restrictions are silly. Both Boost and Virgin Mobile are owned by Sprint, so phones that are branded either Boost or VM are whitelisted on those services (but blacklisted on other Sprint MVNOs). This is supposedly because these phones are discounted/subsidized, so Sprint wants to recoup its costs by forcing you to go with their own prepaid brands rather than an independent MVNO. I'm not sure if I wholly believe this argument though, since these device restrictions seem pretty arbitrary at times (some phones are blacklisted, when others are not). Anyway, the way around this issue (at least for now) seems to be to go with the Sprint prepaid version of some of these phones. Although, I wouldn't count on that always working. From what I've heard, the Sprint prepaid version of the Galaxy S3 is blacklisted on Ting, because... uh, Galaxy. Yeah, who knows. o_O

you can activate sprint prepaid phones on other carriers right away? interesting...

Apparently some do, but not all. LG Volt and LG Tribute seem to work on some Sprint MVNOs like Ting or RingPlus (and maybe others as well). The best way to know is to just pull up the carrier's ESN checker webpage and see if that particular phone is accepted. If the phone's ESN checks out, then you should be good to activate it! The ESNs are usually printed on the outside of the phone's retail packaging, so you should be able to check the ESN even before buying it.

I think the $40 price is good through 11/29 (Sat), although it's very possible they'll be sold out. You should definitely try it though. The LG Volt for $40 is insanely cheap, so if you can get it for that price, you really can't lose (you can always turn around sell it for a profit, if nothing else).

If you are able to get the LG Volt at this price and want to use it on other carriers, get the Sprint prepaid version. Reports show that Boost-branded Volts are ineligible to be used with other companies. Ting is one such carrier that takes the Sprint-branded Volt, and are currently offering $100 in credit for sign-ups to end of the day on December 1st. Here's a link (I know, a little self-promotion https://z5fqha3icq8.ting.com/) to claim the $100. If you have to wait for shipping, Ting will still reserve the credits for two weeks for you to complete the activation.

No OTG support on this phone??? I wouldn't mind it if we could write to the external SD card with a different file explorer....

Radioshack's website has $10 off coupon when u sign up with your email. My total for the Volt came to $32 and some change.

Jealous! Radio Shack in my town wouldn't accept the $10 off coupon. The fine print did say ineligible on sale items :(

Oh, and I intend to activate the Sprint Prepaid Volt I bought yesterday with RingPlus. I had been looking at used Sprint phones to replace my daughter's dying Epic Touch, but this is a better option. Thanks for the tip!
