Android Question

Hello,

I want to sell my wife's Acer Iconia A1-830 Tablet (Android 4.4.2) but I have a problem. she passed away recently and had it in protected mode. She died with the password so I can't access the admin account. Every tutorial I see that explains how to restore to factory settings tells me to go to Settings>Back up and Reset, but this option is missing on mine, probably because I can only access the protected account.

There has to be another way to restore to factory settings. Can somebody help me out here?

Thanks,
Sean

Hello and welcome to our AndroidForums, Sean--sorry for your wife's recent passing.

You can usually (always?) get to the factory reset function from a device's stock recovery utility (it's a boot-up mode that you can put your device into with Android not running/active).

Anyway, it looks like this page will lead you through the process for your device:

http://acer-au.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/32849/~/factory-data-reset-on-acer-iconia-a1-830

There's a video in the above link and this text:

A factory data reset can be performed to erase user data from your tablet.

PRECAUTION

The following steps will erase all of your personal information, all stored contacts, and any programs you have installed on your tablet.

SOLUTION

  1. Power off the tablet.
  2. Press and hold Volume Up and the Power Button together. Release the Power Button after three second and continue holding Volume Up until you see the boot screen.
  3. Select Recovery.
  4. Use Volume Down to highlight Wipe data/factory reset. Press the Power Button to select it.
  5. Select Yes -- delete all user data.
  6. Select reboot system now after the reset is complete.
I added the bold red to the above for emphasis.

Cheers and best of luck!
