Help What is going on with my phones data?

jonr991

So here is the deal, i have a Note 3 that i am using with straight talk. It will only let me go to some websites though with my data settings. for example, bing.com will always work but google is pretty much a craps shoot. Facebook.com will never work, nor will the ap. Messenger will work sometimes like i mentioned before with google.

pretty much the only thing i can honestly do with this phone right now data wise is use bing and watch porn lol... and thats not cool...

So whats going on with this device? I'm almost 100% positive i have the correct APN settings for it, had to go though straight talk directly for that.

This was a used phone i got off Craigslist a few months ago, and ever since i've had it its been doing this. I checked the IMEI number on it originally after i bought it and it wasn't locked so i know its probably not that either. some help with this HUUUUGE annoyance would be greatly appreciated.

Also, i was under the assumption that T-mobile had very good coverage (this is a t-mobile device) and where i live it awlays bounces from 4glte to just and E on my phone. what exactly does that mean?

when you are connected to wifi... do you still have the same issues?

have you tried to do a full hard rest... start from scratch?

Pull the battery and check the model number beneath the battery, just to verify. If this was a T-Mobile branded device originally and you are using it now on Straight Talk (AT&T) it may well be that your device doesn't support the proper mobile bands for your provider. AT&T and T-Mobile do not use the same radio frequencies for 3G data and I think the LTE bands are a little off, too.

so .. something in the setting or software conflict between some apps. not allowing some sites to come through.. and others to work

just a guess... and a suggestion.
hardrest the device. this should get rid of all software issues. maybe.
but if you phone is rooted and/or reprogrammed to work with a different carrier.. then I don't know what a hardrest might do.

or Lunatic might be right.

well theres a problem with that lol... this phone is missing the insert with all that data on it. i didn't figure that out until i got it home and by then...well it was too late. you never get your money back off craigslist lol. can i check this in the phones actually settings where id find its IMEI number?

Is there a difference between hardresetting a device and restoring it to its factory settings? because when i first got this device it cam to me reformatted/ factory restored.

hardrest.. is resting it back to factory settings... wiping all user data and loaded apps off the device.

well ... factory rest.. clean....that is what the seller told you.
based on the Label with phone id missing.. I am not giving him any benefit of the doubt.
so.. there maybe added software or changes.

I don't know what to tell you. phone maybe rooted and customized.
to work with a bad phone id... to work for different carrier.
outside my scope of understanding.

I've looked through the phone info (both in menu>settings>about phone and the dialer codes) and the model information may be the name or the model number. On my Nexus 6 its the name, on my Galaxy tab it's the model number, so maybe on the Note 3 you'll get the number, too.

In any case I can't believe that a phone bought on CL has the model and serial info missing accidentally. You may have either a lemon or a counterfeit. :(

"OR"? Dan, you know I'm ALWAYS right ... even when I'm not. :p

Well the odd thing about that is that it was there, but it appears as if it was pulled off. I'd have no idea why. This phones imei number comes back Clean. Which is weird.

I call shenanigans. There is no reason to remove that label unless you are trying to hide something.

Give this video a look-see. You'll have to go about 3 minutes in before they actually start comparing the phones. I assume you didn't get OEM packaging.

"Donate"??? not the right term to use....

what word express the feeling of ....."threw out the window, while driving down the highway during a storm"?
