First of all, thanks to everyone especially to danhalen1 for making the LG Volt phone a better phone with all the work everyone has contributed.

I have successfully rooted, updated both my VM Volt and my Boost (unactivated) Volt.

I was wondering to simplify the process if it was possible to use the LG Laf Recovery Multitool but instead of using the recovery.img in that post, use the cwm1.img that danhalen1 has provided??

http://androidforums.com/l70-all-things-root/863389-tool-lg-laf-recovery-multitool-v1-2-a.html

I saw the first post on the thread had crossed out LG Volt but then later sammyz indicated to Sands207 that it would work on Boost LG Volt as long as the right recovery.img was used??

If it works, does this mean we can flash danhalen1's CWM recovery to laf partition allowing the download mode key combo for booting into CWM recovery??

Hope people understand my questions.

I didnt know they made a tool to do this actually. Been busy with too many other non phone related projects lately. Well you could give it a shot. I think the only risk you run is if it doesnt work, you would have to manually go back in and erase that partition with the dd zero command to regain access to fastboot. I think we will still run into the secure boot failure error, but you never know unless you try it out!

Edit: If you dont feel like trying this out no worries. I am waiting for team codefire to release their bump method (hopefully soon), when they do i will alter my cwm recovery build with the fix if it works. I was hoping they would post it before i had to leave for a week on business without proper computer/internet access.

could i just pull the laf file from /dev/block and put it back after i boot fastboot?

Im not really sure what you are saying. the laf partition needs to be erased in order to unmask fastboot. You can use fastboot for whatever you want and then flash your saved laf.img back if you like.

I'm asking if I could use a file explorer to delete the laf file and then copy it back when I'm done with fastboot, trying to zero it out isn't working for me

Well its a partition, i dont believe you can format partitions with a file explorer, but i havent ever tried. I would double check what driver you are using. I have not seen anybody else who was unable to format the partition.

mind linking the drivers you're using?

This is a little off topic but I've noticed that many UI themes chooser options are .zip files that need to be flashed in cwm to fully work. Changing the launcher up sometimes is refreshing but as of now the only the wifi statusbar icon has been the only part of the system I've been successful at changing without cwm. Any thoughts on this? I have fastboot and everything else working to do it, i just don't want to end up with a brick ;)

ive been following the progress of getting the bootloader unlocked and bypassing the secure boot function. i want to see cwm as a flashable recovery. im not entirely new to fiddling with my phones innards (both software and hardware). anyway, what im getting at is i have a volt to test on and am wondering how much more progress has been made in these past few months. i will help get around the secure boot bs. sooner or later, i will get lg's rom off this phone.

in the meantime, i was wondering if anyone has attempted a safestrap-like bootloader. i remember having to use it on my xt907 for a while.

This is very outdated. We have flashable recovery. Here's a current rooting guide.
