Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

Kung Fu Panda signed with the Boston Red Sox. He's no longer with San Fran.

That really was the nickname someone gave Pablo Sandoval when he first came up to the Giants.

Someone ask Mike how or if sumo is programmed. I supposed Graeco-Roman can also be faked or bought.

Lol! Why do people delete something when they don't know what it is?
Automatic task killers and ram cleaners flat out lie, and claim to kill and clean things when they don't.

This leads to the meme that you can do better by slashing away at system files.

Before they brick their phones, they've talked someone else into how great it is.

It's going viral. :(

Because they don't know what it is, duh!

They delete something with no effect and are cool experts.

But when they go too far, they accidentally deleted it.

And if someone here or elsewhere can't help where do they go?

For warranty service.

Thus reinforcing to the makers that phones need to be locked down. Which, they have a good point.

But it's why it's hard for everyone else to have nice things.

I've done this in the past in ES File Manager, out of not paying attention, and, dealing with a phone with read-only restrictions... it was so much easier back during Gingerbread...

Mostly because the manufacturers - and, yes - the carriers (especially the pay-as-you-go ones) have created limitations, and restrictions in order to keep their bottom-line looked after.

Know what you're dealing with, before bringing root to your Android smartphone. What may work for one carrier, may not work with another.

You guys are 100% correct in your observations. LW

It's been a sleepless, painful night. That's my early morning rant.

They prescribe things that make your hands, feet and ankles swell.

While they're doing that, they prescribe something else that kills pain so well, that you end up re-injuring yourself.

That's where I'm at right now.

I've dealt with the 'Big C', type 1 diabetes, and neuroskeletal nightmares.

As the kids say, today:
BRING IT

I'm going to get up, slowly, and cook my baby and I some gluten-free pancakes; do my insulin, and have some real maple syrup (a wee bit) with my pancakes.

My last A1C was at 5.6. Not bad for a guy with my limitations. May everyone have a SUPER day - LW

I do delete windows files - but usually only BMP, JPG, some sound files and some bits left over by deleted programs. (Far easier in W98SE) A lot of deleted programs leave junk in the registry. For instance - one son-in-law used to try to game on my computer. I KNOW I didn't install Dungeons and Dragons. It did leave stuff behind in the registry. I've found malware on computers that was running stuff from the registry. Program deleted, but it left bits behind. It left ads in scheduler. (XP at work) I'll delete folders left behind by uninstalled programs bit by bit.

Otherwise, I look it up and delete the whole program. I don't use a cleaner. One I used came with a reputable AV in the past decided to delete all "unused" files from the registry. Some files were from programs that were not "mainstream" in use, and deleted. So I don't trust cleaners. I will use a duplicate finder, but only if it gives me the choice of what to delete. These are usually music or graphic files. Cameras seem to download both JPG and RAW. I only want the RAW files, but have no choice. 2 of the same file, but different formats.

BTW, I don't use much of Windows besides the OS. Programs are either open source (Libre Office, Inkscape)
or purchased. Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Indesign and other crafting programs. Use Pale Moon, Claws or Mozilla for mail and browsing. If I want to edit music or movie type files, I use Kubuntu. Less chance of getting a bad codec. I do use RAW or PSD, so I need a viewer that opens all. Windows doesn't. BTW - Linux does have viewers that open most graphic files, including newer RAW camera files. I have to convert one camera's files to Adobe DG on Windows. (free)

The Vulcan got a bad codec and that was a pain working way through deleting all. In a way I'm glad he doesn't want a smart phone. He'd fat finger something that is no fun getting rid of.

That's also a reason I can be a pest here about Android files. I like to know how things work, not just glowing freaking reviews.

I managed to stay awake since I was up all night Friday, through the present time.

Pain has been managed, and my wife-to-be gave me the night off from cooking; though, I made good on the gluten-free pancakes for Saturday morning.

They turned out wonderfully.

My eyes are fluttering. I shall sleep soundly, even with the drone from my spinal pain. The skies have cleared, and the barometric pressure is rising.

Today will be better. Good night (morning :) ) LW

A bike club, or in our case, Olympic riders of all nationalities training on public streets. We have rolling hills, no area completely flat, and they block all lanes of traffic, especially uphill.

The last time I saw some of these riders, we were on the motorcycle on a back road and they had pace cars in front and back. It's still a public road. They can ride single file unlike an oversized load that will take up quite a bit of the road.

Had I been riding a crotch rocket by myself, I would have hauled around them as soon as there were passing lines in the road.

People that ride their bikes on the sidewalk RIGHT NEXT to the bike lane piss me off! When i see them coming, i will square of in the middle of the side walk and let them know there's a bike lane
When a bike lane is provided, USE IT... as we all know, there are many ways that a regular sidewalk can be used by bicyclists, skateboarders, roller bladers, and the list goes on... much to the chagrin of the elderly, who have their groceries in tow behind them.

I used to be young at one time, and I understand that the areas left open for all of the aforementioned to use are shrinking.

It would be great for city planners to create areas for those people to use, without creating grief for biped traffic. Hell, in many cities, people use skateboards - and, the fancier ones with handlebars - right on the streets where cars, buses and regular motorized ttansportation go.

There are people who are against that, citing safety reasons, etc. - but, we've all got to be more tolerant for people who use alternate forms of transportation - it improves the carbon footprint in our cities, and, if we could get the roller bladers and skateboarders to be more respectful of foot traffic (as well as traffic of the motorized variety), rather than doing ollies over the top of them, we might see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Just a thought. LW

I'd rather see them riding on the sidewalk than get in my way when I'm driving. How hard is it to take one step to the side when you're walking? Most sidewalks I see are deserted anyway. If there's a bike lane, fine, use it, but I don't understand the hostility.
Because where i am, people do this a lot, and its an expectation that the walking pedestrian will get out of the way. I've lived in this city for 28years, and have biked almost every street at one point or another. Yes I've ridden on the sidewalk, but the second i see pedestrians, i get out of their way. It's illegal to ride on the sidewalk, and its rude to boot. Think about it, for the bicyclist to move out of the way, it would take a slight twist of one or two muscles in the wrist. For the pedestrian, there's a little more action than that. For people who live with pain, where every step is pain, asking that extra movement so they can be lazy, is not fair

Edit: i admit, i have become desensitized for having lived in a city with mean hostile people for too long..

Gmash, I suppose that it depends upon which city you're in. No hostility here - just trying to give CrimsonToker some suggestions, and, some of my observations from past experiences in the different places that I've been.

I hope that you have a good Sunday - the sun's finally shining over here, ushering in some high barometric pressure, and a reduction in my pain level since my ER visit.

5% Lidocaine patches help a lot. The other meds I should flush down the commode. If you can avoid having back surgeries like I have, you'll be ahead of the game.

Hang in there, everyone - LW

As a bicycle rider myself, I have to admit that using the sidewalk as a bikeway has its advantages-- I feel safer with a nice curb and easement between myself and often reckless (if not downright murderous) automobile drivers, and it's generally a smooth ride.

With that said, however, I recognize that the sidewalk is intended for pedestrian use, and so I will use the road when there are people using the sidewalk for its intended purpose.

Of course, the ideal would be the incorporation of bike lanes and bike paths, which are very nice, but I can understand that not all cities/towns/whathaveyou have the wherewithal nor budgets to do such.

It's like I wrote earlier - it all depends on where you're at. When I was a kid, I rode on sidewalks all of the time - back then, there wasn't a law forbidding the riding of bicycles on sidewalks where I lived.

However, whenever I encountered pedestrians coming toward me, I'd make a quick driveway exit to the street, or, hop a curb to give the pedestrians right-of-way.

Of course, that was back in the day, when common courtesy was the norm. I've had instances as a licensed musical street performer when kids on skateboards would just miss me by inches. Times have definitely changed. LW

I hate restrictions. Both IRL and on the internet.
How are we meant to advance if the amount is restrictions we are given are ridiculous.
