new update, zv5_07

I can only speak from my personal experience, but I am on my 3rd phone from LG and Virgin mobile (also other android phones from other carries/phone brands) and I have NEVER had an OS upgrade on any of them.

So in my opinion, I wouldn't expect a Lollipop upgrade EVER.

If you want an OS upgrade, they expect you to buy a new phone. That's how they sell lower cost phones. Now when it comes to the high $ phones like Samsung - you may get a little better treatment. But, then again, you paid quite a bit more for that luxury.
I don't know if you are adressing LG only devices, but I have had several OS updates on VM devices, two come to mind the EVO V 4G and the SG SIII. More than I can count outside of VM on other Sprint MVNOs.
I thought it was posted that LG has scheduled Lollipop for Q2 release or was that just speculation?

The S2 was upgraded to jellybean from gingerbread as well.

That list was not from LG or on LGs site, it was just speculation.

Just curious does the phone have to be activated or at least connected to Sprint network to receive the OTA update? Mine is using wifi only with no Sprint signal, it says ZV4 is already the latest and all other updates failed to authenticate.

Correct, you won't get updates on an unactivated device.

Once this update officially rolls out, is there a way to manually flash the update vs a OTA update like is possible with Samsung Kies for Samsung branded devices?

EDIT: Found the flashing tool LG Flash Tools Ver 1.6.

Not exactly true! Some phones get lucky every now and again. But you make a valid point that they want you to buy a new phone.

I also have a ZTE Warp 4G and it went from JB 4.1 to KK 4.4 (took a year from the release of KK). We didn't think we would get it, but some how some way they did it.

Boost Mobile pushed the update to my LG volt today is there a way to disable the notification? I don't want to update yet.

Just got the update this morning. No noticeable changes yet (wasn't rooted, though), but I'll keep playing with it. Haven't noticed any Swype weirdness yet, thankfully, but I'm using the Swype+Dragon that I purchased a few phones ago, not what came installed - that went wonky (crashing constantly) months ago, so I switched over.

As far as Lollipop, I couldn't say where these guys got their info, but they're saying Q2 for the Volt, which would be interesting.

That list has been all over here for a few months. It's purely speculation of their own creation.

As for the update, ART works now.

My apologies for re-linking to something you'd all seen before

And you're right, ART does work now - I didn't think of that, almost certainly because I am but a lowly "general user," not a developer, so I didn't see any difference in app response or behavior than in dalvik. :)

On another note, can anyone explain to me what, exactly, goes into "devices being prepared for [Lollipop]?" I did read above that
There is no such thing as "a rom update to ready a phone for the next rom". This isn't world of warcraft, there are no pre expansion patches needed.
So what does that process entail? Is there anything I should BOLO for that'll tip me off that something's coming?

Thanks for your insights!

Hey BG I'm planning on flashing the z5 deodexed. I was peaking into the zip and saw recovery.img can I replace it with my own 6base recovery alreast on my phone. Also how do I flash radio

No I don't have the updater-script set to flash recovery, so your existing recovery will stay intact.

The radio flashes in recovery just like any zip file.

Thanks for this i flashed it and the radio with my cwm v6.0.3.7 base recovery. I now still have root and working update z5. I used the deodexed verion of your z5 and it took a bit to rebuild delvik cache. All works good ive had no issues with service or wifi. I'll let you know if something goes wrong. Thanks kwknott

You ought to switch to TWRP or Philz. Turns out the issue with flashing the zv4 ROM with these was an issue with the ROM, not the recoveries.

MAYBE ITS JUST ME, but I installed the update over a week ago and I see no difference. Of course I am not rooted and CANNOT root (I have tried everything in the forums to root and NOTHING worked so I just gave up. I will just continue losing pictures, files, and apps since my phone is full and my 32GB SD card is not usable without root so you can apply the KitKat patch. I will try to find someone in town who can do it or I guess if worse comes to worse, I am dying anyways can't take my pictures when I go.

The only way to do it so far, is to downgrade to ZV3, root, install custom recovery and flash the new ZV5 stock rom

Something just occurred to me... The file for the downgrade is in a zip file... You have to extract it. Did you do that?

Got ALL these:
Files to download
ALL the crap from this thread: http://androidface.com/firmware/lg-volt-ls740-stock-firmware-usb-drivers-and-lg-flash-tool-software/

There are quite a few other pages where I went and Downloaded from and none worked EVEN the ones who said the could root the one with 1 click of the mouse (probably can for MOST phones but the LG Volt isn't one that is supported (Go figure).

None of that stuff has anything to do with rooting this phone. That thread has the appropriate stuff, but no instructions. I suppose I could help you through Team Viewer, if you get this. First, I want you to do the following:

1- Uninstall any phone related drivers from any phone.
2- Reboot the computer
3- Download the stuff in Step 1 of this thread:
http://androidforums.com/threads/guide-rooting-guide-for-volt-ls740-zv3-4-5.893332/
4- Install the LG Drivers
5- Reboot the computer again

I haven't read of anyone else experiencing this problem so I suspect its source is something else and just coincidence

But my voice recognition started acting up (badly) since the update; anyone else; possible alternative causes/remedies?
Try clearing data for the app?

What are phone related drivers. Only drivers i know of is the LG drivers that go to the phone. They don't work half the time even thought LG says they work with windows 8.1

Yeah, the LG drivers...any drivers you might have installed from old phones. Anything related to a phone listed in the Programs and Features control panel.
