new update, zv5_07

I haven't read of anyone else experiencing this problem so I suspect its source is something else and just coincidence.
Are you referring to the bricking? There have been 2 reports now that I've seen. Most people that are rooted have probably simply ignore the update.

Just curious does the phone have to be activated or at least connected to Sprint network to receive the OTA update? Mine is using wifi only with no Sprint signal, it says ZV4 is already the latest and all other updates failed to authenticate.

I got a sprint prepaid, but unactivated phone (no sim card); just got an update notice, and went ahead and had the phone updated to zv05

Hi ALL,

Just got the update to ZV5 this morning. I had a feeling it would be coming in so I turned it on as early as possible as I was going out and didn't want to get hit with the update then. Interestingly when I turned it on as usual it tied into my Wi Fi rather than mobile data but it was acting funny. It seemed to be unresponsive for a while and just was acting strange. I suspected that was when it was downloading but there was no notification of it. I have Verizon FiOS (fiber for phone, TV and internet) and have 75/75 Mbit service so it would not take very long to download. After a while it said that it had the update and asked me if I wanted to proceed which I did. It took about 10 minutes and it came back with seemingly everything working OK.

As noted by others, from the users' prospective nothing has changed but I suspect (based on info I got about my Sammy tablet) that all the changes are internal and are needed for a possible future upgrade to Lollipop. As I indicated before my tablet still has not gone that final step to Lollipop, but its supposed to. So I assume that we may eventually also go to Lollipop!!

phone is (still) stock

No bricking but both voice to text *and* Swype keyboard are acting up

Ah, OK...I was confused on what problems you were referring. Have you tried clearing the data for those apps?

as best as I can tell, neither are apps per se: I would think that voice recognition is part of the os; don't know how 1 would categorize Swype

Hi ALL,

that all the changes are internal and are needed for a possible future upgrade to Lollipop.

Now THAT is as much as a wishful reach as I have seen... There is no such thing as "a rom update to ready a phone for the next rom". This isn't world of warcraft, there are no pre expansion patches needed.

LG will announce its time table for lollipop on its phones, you shouldn't expect it to just suddenly appear.

Swype is a keyboard app, voice command and QVoice are apps. Both will be listed under All in the app manager.

I certainly can NOT guarantee that the Volt will get the upgrade to Lollipop. However this last download was rather large, did not change the Android version from 4.4.2 and had no changes from the user's point of view. This is almost the exact thing that happened a while ago to my Sammy tablet and I do know that there were many posts stating that the update to Kit Kat was needed before the device could be updated to Lollipop. Unfortunately I can't find any links to those posts but I know what I saw. I can't vouch for how accurate those posts were but I know they were there.

Interesting, I have two Sprint Pre-Paid Volts, one on Ting and one on RingPlus. The device on R+ received a message to update LS740ZV4_08_to_ZV5_07, but the device on Ting did not, even if you check for the update?
Still no actual word on what has been updated?
They must roll out OTA updates on Mondays, the Volt I have on Ting just received the update today. If they are going to release a Lollipop update I do hope they do it soon so development on that can commence. I would like to Root, but not if the Lollipop update is coming down the pike in a few months.
I do believe these devices carry the Android Browser version of WebView exploit as well?

ZV5 update got pushed to my phone this morning, not going to update since I'm rooted using the modified ROM.

So I started looking for a way to disable or hide the notification and I found this in another forum ( http://androidforums.com/threads/tip-disable-ota-update-notification.807179/ ). I tried both the ways suggested in the thread, installing the program, and freezing the framework. Installing the program and following the directions did nothing. The notification still appeared after restart.
I also froze the service with Titanium Backup and that partially worked. It disabled the notification, but also locked me out of the Play store and who knows what else.

So if anyone has a working method of hiding or disabling the notifications for OTA updates, I'd be very happy.

Seriously you can't even tell the OTA update to nag you later... it just persists in the notification tray.

If anyone can solve this constant OTA update notification you will be GREATLY appreciated!

Which can be said about the zv4 update too. I wouldn't be expecting Lollipop any time soon.

Oh! I didn't know that!

While an eventual update to Lollipop would be nice I'm satisfied with Kit Kat. And my 14 day return window from VM is up and I am fully satisfied with the phone and the service. I only paid $100 for the phone and the service plan is $35 per month. I wanted to get into the smart phone arena without spending too much money and it looks like the Volt and VM did that for me.

so my brother had my phone and the update came through. thought he was helping me so he updated it for me now i was running the zv4 rom from donjuro and rooted now i cant get out of cwm...

i have tried to restore my back up but it keeps booting into cwm i have even tried to reflash the zip files from the zv4 but still no luck can any one help

But how do you do that? The update service is already unchecked and it still shows
Unchecked where? In the app manager? You may need to go delete the update package located at /cache/

You're going to have to reflash zv3, then restore your backup.

I can only speak from my personal experience, but I am on my 3rd phone from LG and Virgin mobile (also other android phones from other carries/phone brands) and I have NEVER had an OS upgrade on any of them.

So in my opinion, I wouldn't expect a Lollipop upgrade EVER.

If you want an OS upgrade, they expect you to buy a new phone. That's how they sell lower cost phones. Now when it comes to the high $ phones like Samsung - you may get a little better treatment. But, then again, you paid quite a bit more for that luxury.

not 100% true... the intercept was upgraded from eclair to gingerbread with in the first 6 months

Got my notification today on Boost Mobile for the update. I'm ignoring it until there's an adequate way to keep root.
