Help Unable to use most recent Emoji

jerichoi224

Lurker
I'm using Galaxy S5 with Android 4.4.2 installed on it.
But for some reason, I am unable to use the 4.4 emoji. Instead, I seem to have a downgraded(?) version of emoji
As far as I know the most recent one I'm supposed to have is this set

But In my phone, I have this

Is there anyway of upgrading these emoji???

Yeah, sort of like that. Samsung doesn't support emoji by default, so what's showing up is the standard emoji images used. You can use another keyboard which has the google emoji files with it, like Sliding Keyboard. It's not free though.

You can follow these instructions if you really want to replace. You need root though:

But I thought Google keyboard supported thESE emoji.....?

Supports, but it doesn't have the files in it. For example, I can use the Google emoji inside Hangouts, but I can't use it in Messaging, because the Messaging app can't access the app data of Hangouts. The keyboards either have their own emoji data (as in Sliding Keyboard), or they use the standard emoji data that came with the phone, which is what is happening in your case.
