Help CHINESE PHONE IN US? HONOR 4x

John Snow

Lurker
Hey every1. I recently bought Huawei 4x. Surely great phone with more than decent specs for the price offered. Except the problem is that it doesnt work on my carrier ( ATT). Did any1 ever had a similar issue? Took it to the store ---- they dont know jack there. I THINK the problem is with GSM bands of ATT. Yet, according to specs of phone - it can support LTE 1900- which is the same wave ATT uses.

Welcome to the forum :)

GSM (i.e. 2G) should work - if that isn't then there's something very wrong.

LTE is a different matter. There are a lot of different LTE "bands", some of which partially overlap in frequencies but may use different technologies. In particular, all US LTE networks use frequency division, while Chinese use time division (incompatible). So you need to look at the specs in more detail to determine whether it should work or not: the Chinese 1900 is "band 39", so the question is whether it can handle "band 2" (ATT's 1900) as well?

If you want to check the definitions of the different LTE bands, you can find them here.

OK, I never know how reliable the specs on some of these sales sites are, but here's what I found:

FDD-LTE:B1/B3(2100/1800MHz)
TDD-LTE:B38/B39/B40/B41
WCDMA:B1/B8(2100/900MHz)
TD-SCDMA:B34/B39
GSM:900MHz/1800MHz/1900MHz

If that's correct it will give you 2G GSM worldwide, but neither 3G nor LTE in North America (though it would provide 3G in most of the world and 4G in quite a lot of places). Sorry :(

That's a phone that's meant for sale in China. If it even has the US 2G bands is another matter, e.g. 1900MHz, many of them don't or have never been tested, and don't believe everything you read. Apart from the Americas, it should be OK for everywhere else.

Huaweis meant for other countries, like the US, don't have TD-SCDMA 3G in them, which is only used with China Mobile.

The might be different versions of the Honor 4X, with differing bands and modes. Because some Chinese sites indicate they have CDMA, which would likely be for China Telecom. There's many wholesalers selling this phone, descriptions in English, prices in USD, but just about all of them are in HK or mainland PRC.

AF has plenty of forums covering various Huawei devices, but nothing for the Honor series. Huawei is rather like Samsung, they make many different phones for different markets and territories.
