Root [MetroPCS] Tethering for MPCS.F6....!!! All Roms **VIDEO for stock only** UPDATED 12-02-14

No idea... Same thing happens to me i guess. I guess by been a third-party app but hav google support allows to be on list... Really not so sure... I hav several apps. Like MTU changer that does the same

Apparently it's a whole ne ball park now since MPCS went to 4G!
First, there are new versions of Wifi Tether that do NOT correspond to the instructions in the first post! There is no way to choose your device.
Second, Android Tuner Pro is no longer available! You get 3CTools as an alternative and that under TASKS did not allow me to see/find Hostapd to kill! In fact 3Ctools shows NO system/bin/ entries what so ever.
Look at the screen shot I attached. System and kernel processes are automatically excluded until you press on those two options.

After all settings adjustments laptop recognized SSID "Android Tether" but had limited access . . . see below!

Im curious
One thing I have noticed and I'm not sure why is that WiFi Tether For Root Users doesn't show up in the play store unless I look under My Apps(I had already used it on my old Sprint Photon 4g which didn't require any special setup or task killing). If I do a search its nowhere to be found. Does anyone know why?
When an app is delisted rather than removed, it shows up for previous owners only, that's what you're seeing.

BTW, I had to find the same version as in the first post, (WiFi Tether 3.3), to make the suggested changes. The current version of WiFi tether 6.02 does not allow me access to the same choices!

is it working or not????
guide is pretty clear... run wf.tether
open 3c tool.. kill hostapd let it connect ..
NOW>> u need to grant acces in WF.TETHER>>> to be able to connect thats the only way we keep others to try to connect...

Y'all can use Hola VPN for the gaming consoles Too...its free...
Do you know if it works for Xbox 360? Right now I'm having to pay and the 2.5gb is more than enough for gameplay but now I can't use Netflix because it'll use up the 2.5 gigs in less than 3 hours.

I dont knw i dont hav a game console but u can try... Download the app or .. Get the extension on ggl

What is MTU changer used for (In simple terms)?
(Maximum Transmission Unit)
Its like a filter encoding for ur signal data to connect.
Signal Data is divided in packages. For example
We have for mobile 1440 and computers have from 1440- 2000. Our wifi transmission is at 2000. So... For faster (expanded) connection.
I have my rmnet0 set at 1458 and my eth0 at 1482, wlan0 2000. to allow more and faster transfers of info from my ph. To my devices n server to connect. ... Signal-wise connectionvis faster.

This thread and video was really helpful. Ive tried and failed so many times to unlock free tethering. Thank you, tc.

Anyways i have some comments/questions and i do need some help with this.

First, this is working on my Xbox One. I have a good connection playing call of duty and can usually find matches at ease.

I do have moderate nat type though. But its not a critical problem. It would be nice to make it open nat type.

Neflix (xbox) works well.

I can downlaod dlc and updates for my games that wont cost me an arm and leg for data usage. (yay)

I do have some major problems trying to play GTA Online. Which is a bummer.

This i really need help with:
- last night the metro pcs screen locked my internet explorer app (xbox). And the youtube app.
Also when trying to use Chrome on my F6 while my tether is running, i get the same metro page.
Ive been using the Chrome UA app on my phone, trying the different profile presets, and it doesnt help. Though i may temporarily get lucky on occasion and get through the web block for unapparent reasons.

How do i really hide my UA? Does trying it through my phone supposed to even do anything? Or do i have to do it on my Xbox? How?

All of this aside, my online gaming, downloads and Netflix still worked even when my explorer is blocked.

Alot of the time my connection speed seems to go up and down. And i keep losing my connection and getting kicked outta nowhere.

How can i prevent this? It seems when i turn my phone screen off, my connection gets messed up, though i cant prove it because it isnt 100% constant.

I tried that MTU tuner thing yesterday and it seemed to make my connection worse. So i cleared that apps data and uninstalled it. I HOPE every thing went back to default. But it doesnt seem like it.

Any tips on how to properly use that MTU thing. Is it possible to get better speeds for gaming using it?.

Another question is- if i removed my 2.5gb/month mobile hotspot from my metro plan, to save money, and just kept my regular 4g unlimited plan, would my tether connection speed be affected/disabled, and would i be more prone to discovery?

Also FYI i do not have a computer. (...that isnt broke anyway)

for what it seems you have change the PHONE UA some where in ur tweakings......
Im not a gamer but i run files tru my home server and My Adobe cloud server ... with no issues... (LIVE VIDEOS, LIVE EDITING, mayor info tru the waves... with no problem @ all.
I would love to knw what exactly u did before having issues....
For and ur the MTU changer u need to set rmnet0 to at least 1500 depending on ur data congestion... you can play with 1452,1458,1462,1472,1480,1482,1487,1492,1497..1500-2000.
if you hav <<3c tool apps u need to make sure ur apps ar activated (RED X on the task manager)>>.
another thing if u have been using tethering with the 2.5g /month ... how long has that been ... and YES if u chage plan it will sloww down ur data speed....
tethering will not be affected or disable but yes ur speed...
Anothe thing why using GG.UA.. on ur phone... U can Use HOLA VPN to help tru ur connection.
But please get back to me with ur setting before issues.. to figure it out.

I havent played online yet today. Earlier i downloaded hola from the play store (phone), and it seemed like it was just some browser... i also tried betternet and that wouldnt stay on with my tether up. And i will try that mtu thing out again later. Maybe i can post some pics.

One question though, does having a vpn slow down my speed? If so could that be countered by mtu tinkering. Lol.

Btw thank you for your reply. Sorry for being a noob with such elementary questions.

And also i do have 3c, and wifi tether has a white x. I cant figure out how to make it red.

And i do credit some of the metro pcs page problems to me actally runnning out of my normal hotspot data. But that page shouldnt pop up if i am hid properly, correct?

I just want the data thats going from my phone to xbox to be annonymous. Thats my main concern for now.

For tethering while using a VPN I was under the impression that once the VPN is connected you will get no data to your tethered device. Maybe it's just the phones I've used. In my case I have to run a script to redirect the shared connection through the VPN. It looks like this:

#!/system/bin/sh
iptables -t filter -F FORWARD
iptables -t nat -F POSTROUTING
iptables -t filter -A FORWARD -j ACCEPT
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -j MASQUERADE

Once I have connected to the VPN and tethered something to my phone I run that script and it starts working. Until I do the device I'm tethered to has no Internet connection.

How do i run a script?
And what vpn do u use?

1. Take the text I posted above and use notepad to save it with a "sh" extension, for example "VPNpassthrough.sh".
2. Copy it to your phone where you can easily find it.
3. Install smanager from the play store (requires root to run).
4. With smanager find the file you made and run it after selecting "is script" option and enabling "su" box.

The tethered traffic should now be redirected through the VPN tunnel.

I currently use VPN unlimited and VPN.sh. For gaming you might get more latency than you want with a VPN.

NOTES:

If you use a VPN you shouldn't need to use the methods in this thread, it's an "either/or" since the traffic is encrypted and the provider can't see user agents anyway.

I have used this "VPN with script" method on many phones but not the f6 so I can't promise it will work. There is no danger in testing it since the routing change is temporary.

I HAVE used the method listed in this thread on an f6 and it worked just fine. Of course I had to discover the correct version of android tools to use as was mentioned earlier.

Ok just hold on the X until turns red ... Click on the penguin icon there u should hav wifi.tehter dsmask if its on white click on it until is red too....example RED (ALLOWED) WHITE (NOT ALLOWED)

The hola vpn works good i only use it when using external Wi-Fi.. To make sure it goes direct to server n not redirected to different servers... It should not slow down ur data...

(Replying to dobulus post)
Okay i will try that when i get off work. But could you give me a link or somethin to the vpn you use?
