Help Transferring files between phones

johkaz

Newbie
Hi,

This may seem like a stupid question, but how do i transfer all of my files, messages etc from my Galaxy Ace 2 phone, to my new Galaxy S5 phone? I have tried Kies, but the Galaxy Ace 2 uses Kies lite (Version 2.6.3.15024_5) and this will not see the Galaxy S5.

The Galaxy S5 uses Kies 3, but it will not see the Galaxy Ace 2. I have tried to use Samsung Smart Switch, but that only has Apple, Blackberry and Nokia as a choice of manufacturers.

I forgot to add that i am on Virgin Media, and i have to register the new Galaxy S5 sim card, as my other Galaxy Ace 2 sim card will not fit. But if i register it i lose the sim on my Galaxy Ace 2 phone, and i do not want to recieve messages or calls on my new S5 phone. Until i have transferred all of my information from the Galaxy Ace 2 to the Galaxy S5.

Thanks in advance.

Gary

If you have a computer you should be able to do it by copying files via USB cable or WiFi using Airdroid or a similar app to the computer, then to the new phone.

If no computer, try transferring files to Google Drive. Dropbox or other cloud storage then to the new phone.

Hi,

Many thanks for the reply.

I have tried that Airdroid program before, but i had problems with some parts of it, so i am reluctant to try it again. What has me annoyed is that KIES saves all of the hidden files from my phone, most of which i need on my new phone. But because of the different versions, i have to stay with my old phone for now.

Hi

Xender ^^ Looks good but doesn't transfer contacts, phone logs or sms as far as I can see. I suspect it uses the source phone as an ftp server. I have always used "My Backup Pro" from playstore. Its not free if you want to backup to one device and reinstate to another, but does it all.

Hi,

Many thanks for the replies.

And i apologise for not getting back to the forum before this, but someone pointed me to this Samsung site.

https://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/

And i used the Android Smart Switch to connect both phones, and it transferred all of my files over to the new phone, including the contacts and my messages.
