Help Verizon Lollipop bugs & issues thread...

Thought I'd start a thread to try and consolidate all the issues with the update after finding my first one.

If you try to rename your bluetooth devices, it will stick for a short time then revert back to the default. I suspect this has to do with the new smart lock feature that can keep your phone unlocked while it's connected to a Bluetooth device. Even if you rename one and set up the smart lock, it pulls the default name and cannot be changed.

Hopefully Verizon monitors some forums out there so they see this thread... What else have you found?

As with all Android updates, backup (Helium is good), factory data reset, restore.

Android itself uses two cache areas that can and often do get corrupted on an update.

Unless you're rooted, the only way to get to both of them is with a factory data reset.

I used helium for the first time ever today. Aside from system apps, it seems like it may be grabbing apk and data like Titanium for root users. Is this accurate?

Thanks @EarlyMon !

From the lack of responses on this thread, I am guessing that there are not any major issues with the VZW M8 Lollipop update? I am holding off and ignoring the constant nagging from VZW to update until I am sure that there is nothing like what happened to me with my S4....

Thoughts? Is it safe to update?

One issue I have experienced is in text messaging.

2 of my co-workers have iPhones, we all use Verizon as a carrier. Ever since the update to Lollygag, when they send to me in the group conversation, I do not get the message.
So I deleted the message thread and am able to send and receive to the group.

The S5 Verizon Lollipop threads are all over the map - and a fair sized complaint thread on it at the Verizon site.

The HTC side, not so much. Some having to factory data reset, some having issues adapting to some of the changes.

I'm not on Big Red so that's all I got from the peanut gallery.

My little bro has the S5 and he had a ton of problems. I had him factory reset and he said his problems went away.

The only main issues I had with my S4 (before VZW finally gave me the M8 as a replacement) after the KitKat upgrade was I couldn't send text messages reliably. But this was a game ender for me since I text more than I call.

I think I will take the update tonight and hope for the best.

Anyone know if there is a downgrade to root method available yet? I can't find anything definitive online....

You have to root running towelroot or whatever works lately for the Verizon M8, get Sunshine s-off for $25, install TWRP (nandroid backup immediately) and then regress to KitKat.

ViperOneM8 as well as some other good ones still have older downloads maintained.

Tonight is the night I reset and take the ota also. Good luck kratos. It looks to be a couple of downloads. Must be covering some bases.

Doing it now. Update #1 is about done. Will give it about an hour or so to calm down some and then do update #2. Good luck to you as well. If I learned anything from my S4 debacle, it is that if your OTA screws your phone (and not in a good way) and VZW gives you a replacement that is not already updated, DO NOT take the update! LOL

From everything I have read, if something does go wrong, then it seems that a factory reset is the trick. Which is not a big deal because almost every app I use has some form of cloud based backup now (be it Google, or app specific server).

I'll report my findings after a few days....

Good luck to both of you guys. My update went well. I, too, let the dust settle between the updates. I was expecting to factory reset... it's my normal course it seems with major updates. This time... I have noticed zero oddities. I think I'm good to go. Wish the same for you.

It's been about 24 hours and so far I have not seen any major issues, save for two. At first I thought it was a bug, but after reading through a LOT of forums, XDA included, I realize that what I am bout to say was done by DESIGN! WHY?!?!?

Google has disabled the ability for 3rd party apps to toggle Mobile Network (data) on and off. For example, my Tasker profile to turn off 4G when connected to my home WiFi network no longer works. I can manually toggle it off and on via the quick settings, but Tasker no longer is allowed to do so.

One other thing I have an issue with is that Secure Settings Failed Logon Attempts is no longer working and this too is by design. I have a profile set up that will take a picture and email it to me if someone incorrectly guesses my password x number of times. Now I cannot use it. However, I do have to give props to the Secure Settings Dev for including warnings in their app that this is "broken" by Google design.

I think of these 2 things, the data toggle is the most annoying and unacceptable to me. Hopefully Google takes note and reverses this really stupid decision.

Okay, so.... It's been just under a week and I can confidentially say that this update to lollipop has been really smooth. Granted, my small issues as listed above are really annoying, but overall, this update is really smooth and bug free.

I guess what I am saying is that this update is safe to accept and install. I really like the new design dubbed "material"....

My phone seems to suffer slower and slower interface as time passes. A reboot brings it back to normal speed. I normally leave my phone on all the time. Never had this issue until Lollipop. Seems I now have to reboot every 48-72 hours or suffer extremely slow interface.

I installed the update two days ago ... other then a few cosmetic things...not bad till today needed to turn on my FoxFi hotspot and no dice...need to roll back....is there anything out there yet besides risking as stated above:

Tried a factory mode cache partition delete, but phone still goes to crazy slow mode after about 3 days of uptime.

Yesterday got fed up and did a full factory reset, waiting to see how long it lasts.

If that doesn't work, this M8 was not meant to have Lollipop. It will be replaced with any other brand/model and sent to ebay.

It's been almost one full week of up-time and my M8 is working perfect after doing the Factory Reset. If the problem creeps back in, I will reply, but I think it's all good.
