Help galaxy s5 won't update

juwlz49

Lurker
I've had my Galaxy s5 from August of 2014. Since that time I have not been able to receive a software update. Evertime I go to search for an update in Settings, it tells me that my phone is up to date and that I must wait 24 hours to check again.

Additionally: The version of my phone is 4.4.2. However, both versions 4.4.4 and 5.0 Lollipop has been released since the purchase of my phone.

Is this a device issue or a carrier issue?
Can anyone help me??

Flash it in Odin and then OTA

A couple of problems here:

1. That link clearly says "for the Samsung Galaxy S4", whereas the OP has an S5. The wrong firmware could brick his device.

2. We don't know which variant of the S5 the OP has, so again an incorrect firmware could cause problems.

The Galaxy S5 sub-forum is very active, with many experienced members contributing, so I will move this thread to there so that it's seen by them.

The only firmware for your model is 4.4.2, go here to check, it looks like your provider hasn't issued the update yet. Phil

Apologies, I have just seen this, http://androidforums.com/threads/lollipop-release-massive-update.914960/#post-6948685 , it looks like SamMobile is lagging behind with the updated info.

I'm going to do a Slug! ;)

Only 2 problems I can see...

1. The phone is the AT&T, G900A, model and the firmware for this is not issued by Samsung and does not appear, (usually), in SamMobile or Samsung Live Update.

2. The post, Lollipop release. Massive update!!!, refers to a release for the G900F, international model only, so far.

As to where one can obtain the stock AT&T firmware .tar file for Lollipop, G900AUCU3BOC4, to flash via Odin, is anyone's guess.

I would advise against that, mate. One of us is more than enough! ;)

You are so right! ;)

Thanks for stepping in with your (usual) sage advice. I remember only too well how confusing things got with the S2, so figured it was best to ask the experts. :D

Ask an expert and you get me... oh well, you can't win 'em all. :D

As mentioned by ironass, the G900A is AT&T's S5 model. Hopefully, you are in the USA because if you're not, you're out of luck. You cannot update the G900A unless you are connected to AT&T's network and you cannot connect to AT&T's network if you're outside the USA.

If you are in the USA, you can take your phone into an AT&T store and see if they can resolve the issue. Also, many Best Buy stores have a Samsung booth staffed by Samsung employees who may be able to assist if AT&T can't help you.

Even IF he is outside the USA for the moment, wonder IF he were to use a VPN service to give him an IP address inside the USA... would that help?

I am going to suggest probably not....
The reasoning I am using here is that I live in a rural area of horse and ranch country in Oklahoma, USA.... and when I need to change a phone registration, I have to get on my horse and go 10 miles down the road away from home to find a Verizon cell tower... Only then will it update properly.

That has been a major PITA for me ever since I moved here. Used to live in Phoenix, Arizona and updates were never a problem, nor was changing a phone's registration. I could do it over the internet myself.... but not here in horse country.

Your reasoning is spot on, AZgl1500. He would have to be able to connect with the AT&T network in order to receive the update.

Huh? The S4 is a SGH-I337 not a SM-G900A

You are correct rootandroideasy. The SGH-i337 is the Galaxy S4 model for AT&T.

However, this is the Galaxy S5 forum and the poster quite clearly states in post #4 that they have the G900A which is the AT&T carrier branded model of the Galaxy S5! ;)

I think what's likely causing some confusion is that rootandroideasy is referring to the file referenced in his previous post:

https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712464416 Credits to XDA for the file.

Flash it in Odin and then OTA

The problem is that while "G900A" is included as part of the file name, the file's description clearly states that it is intended for the Galaxy S4. Either the file name is misleading or the file description is wrong. Without a clarification as to which model Galaxy this file is actually intended for, I wouldn't chance using it.
