Help Note 4 sound output not working correctly

Hello, so I have had my note 4 for about 6 months and I have had no problems with it until today. I plugged my aux cord into my phone in my car like I always do, and for some reason the sound is really flat with no bass, and it sounds like I'm listening from a distance with an echo and it's quiet. This has never happened before, and it happens with everything from my regular music app to music streaming apps. Please help me fix this!

Thanks,
Baker

I would start by trying a factory reset:
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.

To perform a master reset, follow these steps:

  1. Back up all data on the internal memory.
  2. From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  3. Tap Settings.
  4. Scroll to 'USER AND BACKUP,' then tap Backup and reset.
  5. If desired, tap Automatic restore to clear the check box.
  6. If desired, tap Back up my data to clear the check box.
  7. Tap Factory data reset.
  8. Tap Reset device.
  9. If you have screen lock turned on, enter your PIN or password.
  10. Tap Continue.
  11. Tap Delete all.

If I can help it, I do not want to do a factory reset

Before you try a factory reset, and have to backup & restore everything, check the cable isn't duff. A broken connection in a stereo aux cable can certainly cause what you're describing with the audio. Easiest way to prove it is either try another cable or another phone or MP3 player, Ipod, etc.

If the cable is found to be OK,ya might wanna try a cache partition wipe:

This will not erase any data/media/etc.....but,if this fails to cure your issues, then as AMOCO recommended,a factory reset is likely in order.
There's lots of data back-up tools available,so,a factory reset isn't the nuclear option as many would lead you to believe.
