Help Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 Boot Screen Error and No USB Communication. Restore Via External SD?

I've got a big problem with my wife's Android Galaxy Tab 2. It hangs up at 'charging_10.jpg' draw failed (No SAMSUNG at boot) nothing. I can get to the Download Utility and also the Stock Recovery. It gives the option to Restore Via External SD. Is this a possibility?

I can't get any of my machines to recognize the device via USB. Is there hope?

Lol Have you tried plugging it into Samsung Kies software on a PC and using the "emergency firmware recovery" (or whatever) feature?
EDIT ah shit your pc won't recognise it!
Have you tried another cable, USB port, pc?
 
Tried another port and several pcs and windows versions and nothing will recognize unfortunately. I don't have another cable. I should try another and see.
 
I would. The data transfer part of them seem to break pretty easy. Make sure you get a data/charge cable and not just a charge one
