I doubt I'll be gaming on it, mostly media/browsing

It's running JB though http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00DGPG532/ref=pd_aw_sim_23_1?refRID=0WHF9W4YHH57Q8RYE2BK

Sorry but I gotta bump this since its been dispatched and can't be cancelled and need to know if I made a stupid purchase that I really can't afford right now.
The reviews say the wifi antenna is shit and I'm gonna be using my phone's hotspot to provide it!

:Curious but clueless: um.. If the phone will be doing 90% of the work (miracast, hotspot, apps to connect..) Why pay so much for another Android (CPU/GPU) unit when a Miracast adapter might do the job? Or does it also have other capabilities added? I've been using Miracast adapters as well but TBH, my phone gets ridiculously hot after 20+min of use.. Even to the point of SD & System glitching. I mentioned this because it's at/near the WiFi hardware that also gets hot when I hotspot. Maybe it's the lower brand/quality of my phone, adapter, my own negligence? But anyway, do other ppl run into similar issues with these boxes & adapters as well? Oh, I paid $13 US on Amazon for the ZPS Miracast adapter.

Didn't see your post before @funkylogik It's just a straight forward Android HDMI dongle, should be fine for media and browsing. Only thing is it doesn't seem to include any way of operating it. Likely why it's only £30 quid. :thumbsupdroid: Some do include a remote zapper, but generally that's not particularly satisfactory and can be fiddly. I see they recommend a wireless keyboard and pointing device to go with it, which I would recommend you get as well. Make things much easier.

It's a self contained Android device, effectively it's a tablet but without a touch-screen. Doesn't depend on the phone, apart from using it for internet access, a hotspot, it's not using Miracast.

Miracast is something that allows you to use an existing Android device with a TV. Like a phone or tablet.

Thanks bro but I don't have home wifi so I have to use my phone's wifi hotspot to run the thing or I'd have bought a chromecast. I actually forgot creating this thread and started a new one where @EarlyMon put my mind at rest a lot.
Ill link it or maybe Emon would merge them.
I'm also worried about what interface it's gonna use lol. Emon suggested possibly an app until I buy something better for it.
@miketd does that controller you linked have like Wii capability where you can point?

@bcrichster does miracast work without external wifi?
Have I been a stupid head? :(
Also where's the cast button in settings? Or is that on the app so you only have a choice of apps that can be cast?

Miracast CAN work off WiFi but not necessary. Be sure to read each Miracast adapter's capabilities to ensure ya don't step on your own foot as some adapters may/may not work that way. I really believe it does a type of device hotspot to transfer the data.. Capability comes stock on Android 4.4+.. As in no extra apps needed :
Turn on WiFi receiver (as if you're gonna connect to something) but don't let it connect to anything yet.
Go to (usually) Settings - Display - Cast screen. Connect to the Miracast and enjoy. Everything/anything on your android device screen displays on TV. I normally use it for letting my kids watch the game I'm playing or a movie I rented from Google Play

Well im stupid then should really have done my research but I was drunk and wanted youtube on my TV lol.
Could have saved myself money and probably waited a lot shorter than a month for delivery..
So is there any advantage to my box than a miracast Dongle? (humour me lol)

Yes!

You won't be stuck while your phone services your TV!
