Help Charging phone WITHOUT battery?

Just curious if charging the phone without the battery inside can damage any hardware or the phone itself.

Most phones always run through the battery, so plugging them in without a battery present does nothing.

Electricity will still flow around the phone right? wouldn't that do anything?
I was charging my phone when I took out the battery to see if any things happens and the phone was still On although frozen. Afterwards I unplugged the cable then Turned off.

I've had phones that do have pass through (work without a battery) but very old ones.
Ig yours works then it works but usually the phone's power comes from the battery and the battery charges from the charger, in that order

I wasn't aware that it worked any other way, how old is a "very old" phone, the kind with a little crank on the side? Lol.
