Root New to Rooting, Everything I need to know?

Wlither

Lurker
Hey, Im new to android coming from an iphone 4. My current phone is a Zenfone 6 WW. Want I want to know are: How to backup (Like make everything as it was before it was rooted), What is flashing, What is a bootloader and is it safe to root?, and lastly, what is the best version of SuperUser.

P.S.
I need to know how to backup because if I send my phone to Asus while it is still rooted, they will not do anything to help me. I learned that if you have a backup of the phone when it was not rooted, you can restore it from that backup.

Welcome to Android Forums!

Most, if not all, of your questions are answered in this post. If anything is still unclear, ask away.
Thanks, but the backup is TitaniumBackup which requires me to be rooted, I need a way to backup my phone so if i mess something up while rooting, i can return it back to how it was before I rooted (same apps, contacs, wallpaper, e.g.)

1. Enable "Back up my data" in Settings/Backup & restore. This will save most device settings.
2. Ensure your Google account is configured to sync contacts etc.
3. Install Helium and make a backup with that, storing it either on external sdcard or a coud service.

Then, if things go badly wrong, you can factory-reset the device knowing that you can restore it safely.

I think he's talking about getting it back to factory state and unrooted for warranty / insurance purposes if something goes wrong with it rather than the data / settings so much?
You will create a nandroid backup after rooting in the recovery yes. But this backup will still be the same factory state as now before root, you have the factory ROM and Kernels etc. You will have a Super User app, I think from that you unroot. So flash original nandroid then go into SuperSU or whatever app you have and click "unroot" I think. I've not used this as never bothered unrooting, but I'm sure it will be pretty straightforward.

I would second a question about Bootloader. When I'm in twrp recovery, what's the difference between rebooting into "system" and rebooting into "bootloader"?

"Reboot System" is a normal boot up into your operating system. It's the same as turning it on. Booting to the bootloader is something you really should never have to do, unless you have to Odin back to stock or something. I've never hit the Bootloader option, so I can't speak to what it specifically does. Maybe someone else here can chime in.

Best super using tool is SuperSU bud hands down the ONLY way to go superuser isn't updated or should be atleast. But ya SuperSU is the way to go for sure.
