Mars isolation experiment begins

Seriously, I hope they emerge happy and healthy for their own sake and to prove that such isolation is possible. With a round trip to Mars taking 5 years (two there, two back and a year on Mars), a successful result is a must.

The closest comparative we've seen is model prisoners, of which there must be some. But even that's not much of a comparison to spending five years in outer space.
 
By December, Crew Architect Tistan Bassingthwaighte will be banging Crew Commander Carmel Johnston in front of God and everybody. But somehow, by March, Health Science Officer and Habitat Journalist Sheyna Gifford will be the one that winds up pregnant... and the project planners never thought to bring diapers and stuff!

Seriously, though, strict rules against fraternization are the only way I can see this working out.

they are trapped in .. and outside is paradise???

is this part of the torture? to know paradise is outside.. just past that door?

OK... fine.. it is NOT just right outside... they are on a deserted dry dead area of an island.

That's an interesting point. If they have internet access, they'll be fighting each other for access time, or if they all have access, they'll never even have a conversation. And either way, they'll wind up hanging out in places like this very thread. If they don't have internet access at all, which is more likely in my opinion, they'll have no idea what's going on on the planet they 'came' from.
 
my guess.. they will slow the internet .. to very slow speeds.
simulate how it would be during the trip.. dialup analog speeds.
and add in the time it takes the data to travel back and fourth...
 
Bigger problem would be the internet filter they will install that will keep them thinking all is well and happy, or even faking the info they get to see how to react. does the trip go easier when the world behind goes on fine without you, or does the world falling apart without you, make the trips success up your game to succeed more???? you know they will be playing mind trick on them either way.
