BOOST version SYSTEM UPDATE

Interesting. Looks like the main reason is they are scared about security flaw/bug and need to patch the OS. Which is a good thing. I wonder how the network icon is changing or if they mean how it shows in the notification area.
Thanks

i guess no one willing to bite the bullet n give it a go...so i did. halfway through the update FAILED. got a "laid-out" android guy with a red triangle/! going thru his chest. pulled battery, phone rebooted..still on ZV4. gonna factory reset phone n try again..what the hell, right?

UPDATE: after factory reset SYSTEM UPDATE : FAILED
maybe try unrooting?...brb

We appreciate ya trying it out. :thumbsupdroid:
I totally get most users reluctance, especially when rooted, always having the possibility of having the phone permanently locked down, possibly losing root &/or their device is the only one they have.
I've had it happen to me w/the Motorola Photon:
Updates were a lot slower & infrequent,so,a lot of bugs to stomp out in the meantime. The price we paid for 'upgrading" was a locked down phone & no significant boost in performance/features,not to mention not a single upgrade afterwards, one slight incremental update over the life of the phone & that was that.

well...hope is decreasing by the minute..literally. attempting to unroot via SuperSU....a soild 5 mins into "uninstalling, please wait..." will post back with either an unrooted phone, a rooted phone,..or a bricked phone. this particular (boost) stylo been nuthin but a headache. purchased on 5.0.2, and after attempting to install 5.1.1...install claimed success. upon booting..i had no keyboard, no dialpad, contacts, half the software simply didnt appear. it was sent back to LG (for a whole month). they reflashed the memory. got back with 5.1.1 installed..werkd great. rooted via manual method in our section..np. thats where we are now.

alright. no way (known by me) to unroot. phone still active. after 3rd attempt at install..SSYSTEM update ZV5 still FAILS. either because of root, poor update file on sprints fault, or i have the only Stylo in the world that just plain sux. either case...ive had no issues rebooting phone..all still functional

yessir.i read it. am i missing something??

SUCCESS!! i can only assume it was being rooted (or the method of root) is what was causing the FAILED install. after removing root..install went very smooth. now running LZV5. although im NOT a dev by ANY means...from what i can tell the phone is running just as before...not a hiccup. now...to try n re-root this badboy. re-root SUCCESS. gonna switch further discusion to root section..as breaking/regaing root is so far the ONLY way ive been able to make it stik

I have to believe they will eventually be rolling it out to everyone - not just to Sprint customers. Due to the whole stagefright thing and wanting to get that vulnerability patched.

FYI - I am NOT rooted.

Got my Boost update today. 238Mb I think. It ran fine. Just be aware, not counting the download, the update itself took about 20 minutes to run, maybe a little longer. The "data" notification is now combined with the Cell strength notification. A "!" on right of it if the data is off and a "LTE" to the left of it if data is turned on.

anyway possible to get a system image of that uploaded? i was where u are now...4 got to backup...did some more playing. long story short...you CANNOT roll back to zv4!! no real reason to..outside of testing..which is already documented. if you can get the image ffrom your phone...please leave a link in the root section in my "SYSTEM IMAGE NEEDED" thread. glad you got it up n running. thank you

How did you unroot? Superuser full uninstall won't work on mine.

Edit: just saw your other post. Sounds like the update creates more problems for rooted.

the root method for zv5 is the same. the phone ran just fine. had link2sd, titanium backup, all was ok. i was just testing a script that executed at boot...which was a no go for me. the method of unroot is a little extreme..however due to security the update CANNOT (as of yet) be installed to a rooted device.

rooted on zv5. running great. update cause NO problems for root...you just cannot successfully install with rooted device. my way was result of trial n error. 6th_Hokage has a very easy way to unroot...just follow this:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/development/official-boost-lg-g-stylo-unbrick-guide-t3215198

Then root as outlined in the root section for 5.1.1. I used the MANUAL method...i HAVE NOT tried the 1-click-root method. Be sure to thank 6th_Hokage; as of right now, this is ONLY way ive found to unroot/unbrick once you take the update. Please remember..once you take the update, you cannot roll back to a previous version.
oh..1 more thing. as far as i know, this is BOOST version ONLY!!

I have the LG Boost Stylo too and I tried getting the new update today but it says retry and I keep clicking but nothing happens. Is all I have to do unroot through SuperSU and then the update will work? And after the update can I re-root? I used manual method before just wanting to make sure it'll work.

UPDATE: Just unrooted in hopes of getting the update. Still says retry download and won't go past that screen. Help me?

you must flash the System.img for your os either ZV4 or ZV5 both are 5.1.1....you must flash the system.img in order to update successfully if not you may brick.....

no!! follow the above post EXACTLY. it is very detailed. EVERYTHING you run will be from within the lg_root folder you download. just remember, when you run ports.bat from the lg_root folder. use the port that ends with "DIAG1". post back if you have any problems

nice man. real nice. installed w/out a hitch. fully rooted, busybox (already installed,eh? niiice), V4A!! WORKING...right outta the box!! GREAT JOB!! only thing xtra i had to do was to run the ##72786# gimmick to get my network connection. OH yeah...i cringed when it first booted n i got that idiot "default boost configuration" bloatware crap downloaded/installed....but link2sd rid me of that crap in a heartbeat. definitly snappier too. installed/softbricked/and bootlooped (purposefully) n the image brought me right back up n running. and w/out a custom recovery. SUPER JOB MAN!! THANK YOU!!

Does it make a difference if I use ZV5 insteadof ZV4? Or do they both do the same thing but ZV5 is just the newer version?

I downloaded the Zv5 files but I'm confused what I do with the update.zip? It doesn't say what I need to do with the update.zip only that I need to move the system.img file to my SD card.
