Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

The spacing isn't substantial enough to give a difference between mono and stereo IMO.

i disagree. i am far from an audiophile and i don't have the best audio acuity but i can tell the difference between mono and stereo even in tiny audio devices. it's the left vs. right channel separation and not the distance that makes a huge difference IMO. my little netbook's speakers aren't that far apart.

Yes but the device already comes with great stereo output via headphones. Why would you want stereo out of a tiny cheap speaker that was not really geared towards audio playback, it's mainly there so you can use the speakerphone, not really for music or anything of the sort.

Agreed! HTC did dual speakers on the Touch Pro 2 and it's by far the best sounding speakers I've ever heard on a cellphone. The sound is noticeable better than a single speaker to the ear. This is the one thing I'm regretting giving up when moving to the Evo.

maybe i want to watch a 720p HD movie with the kickstand and i want stereo audio to go with the great picture and i don't want to use headphones. maybe i want a little boombox for poolside. maybe they could squeeze in two quality external speakers. it is 2010.

I also am inclinde to think the surprise is a killer app.

One thought I had is related to the fact that there are inherent memory/storage limitations on any embedded system (including this phone).

What if the the surprise is something like greater coupling of a "virtual", external filesystem. The phone's filesystem might be extended in a virtual manner to appear as there is an external harddrive??
GOOGLE currently has some options for using GMAIL allocated disk space for storage.

Whaddya think?

my guess is that its some killer app that the general public can appreciate. i when i say "app" i don't mean software app necessarily - i mean "application". hence - i don't think it will be some tech spec X vs. Y or some mundane software app. it will be a killer app 4G related.

"I always think of mobile computing as personal computing. This long-term vision has led us through everything

i'm thinking something like "Sprint TV LIVE via 4G". ie some killer app that Joe Sixpack will salivate over - not tech specs. Joe Sixpack doesn't know the difference between Gigabytes and Garden Hoses.

It should launch, just wont get sound

Well, when I tried on the Incredible in the Verizon store the other day, it refused to launch because of no headphones plugged in. As dumb as I find this to be, it wasn't that surprising.. I've had the same experience on the Sony 810i in the past. Some developer thinking they're being smart I suppose.

What I can't understand is why you can't record from the FM radio? I can do this with all of my mp3 devices with tuners built in..

No the app initiates a check before launching the tuner to make sure headphones are plugged in. If no headphones are plugged in either a warning screen is executed or the app simply doesn't load.

It does this to make sure an antenna is hooked up, technically it can still work without headphones but the signal would be poor at best. Rather than have users go through that they made it so if there is no antenna plugged in the app wouldn't work.

my guess is that there'll be an app(s) for -

1. FM radio audio record.
2. disable headphone requirement for FM radio.

the other site went down so you decided to join us? how kind of you sir! cry about it.

What the hell is with the hating. this is a RUMOR THREAD.

No need for the hostility and calling people out because their info may be wrong, everyone might be wrong but I don't care because it's all RUMORS.

Mods, you're doing a good job, I'm sure this thread must be hell to you guys.

As for the haters you guys are driving out good posters like Jackson and Bill. Sure they may be wrong a lot or right a lot but I don't care, any info, right or wrong on the EVO is enough to keep me alive until the phone comes out :D

Back on topic, I think you will have to plug in headphones but I hope in the Froyo update or another update you can choose to play through the speakers. And there is probably a setting for turning off and on the circles around the buttons.

Another question I got, is it just one big screen and the area where the buttons are just function as buttons? Or are there 2 screens one is the main and the other will have buttons. I think if you could control the button screen you could add a section to use as a trackpad, to add functionality with flash like hovering over things :D

I can dream...right?

1. i see nothing wrong with people questioning the veracity of posters "insider info" claims. we all have a right to be skeptical of such information and voice concerns in a respectful way even though some people may not like it.

2. it's childish to run away in a huff just because someone questions your information.

3. excessive moderation has a chilling effect and will ultimately kill a forum.

my suggestion? tread lightly and don't take anything personally.

Sprint said they had some surprises up their sleeves for this phone. they made it sound like it was a big surprise. i doubt a minor bump up in some spec that's meaningless to 99% of the masses is what they had in mind - ie 1X GB RAM vs. 2X GB RAM. i have a feeling it's something bigger.

any guesses?

IT'S OPTIMUS PRIME.

No seriously I think maybe it will be revealed to be using maXtouch technology or an AMOLED screen.

Now that is what it's all about :D

I agree with being able to question, but I'm just not happy about how people take it seriously and get offended or the people questioning do it just out of spite.

Who's "fighting" and what are ALL of you talking about.

Were speculating here. Whats wrong with that?

Highschool was a long time ago......

As far as Jackson aka Disney good bye. Bill is missed.

I heard several rumours about an evo HD as apple is doing the same. Could be oled people.

Seriously, who cares about who left the forum or to which perceived oasis of the internet they've traveled to.

Talk about the phone instead of wasting space in the thread, I doubt that most people here are interested in the dramatic breakup of the "family."

Three days, people, THREE DAYS. Let's not all go emo and collapse, here.

I wonder if 1 would be an issue because of the RIAA... I wouldn't be surprised.

couple things..

i give props to bill for taking it like a man and just leaving. he doesn't owe any of us anything, if he wants to leave then it's his business. none of this "ban me" nonsense which is childish at best.

if you don't want to be here then leave. if you don't like what people have to say then don't read/believe it.

please no one piss off river or eieio into leaving. their posts are the most informative on this board imo.

regarding people who keep calling people out on their accuracy or lack there of on rumors or whatnot. i keep thinking "who the hell are you to call out anyone here? what has been your contribution to this thread???"

oh yeah, i agree that headphones will probably be needed to listen to the radio but that's not a big deal since its how it works on the incredible and ipods among other things.

Could you list a phone that has been released in the last 6 months that has a great radio?

doesn't lower SAR # come from less signal strength beside your head ?
WaveShield Cell Phone Radiation FAQ

If your in an area without towers the SAR would be higher vs many towers would be lower. Many new phones have a lower SAR including the EVO. Look at HTC Imagio in the list below, it's one of the lower SAR ratings. How does it work out in the middle of country with no towers close by ?

My LG has a SAR of 0.6 and works pretty good now days with all the towers. There was a time 4 years ago when it always seemed to have 1-3 bars. I would rather use battery powered external antenna or portable to extend range vs risk my health/DNA. It would be interesting to see how many VZ phones have higher ratings vs Sprint. You'll notice iphone has been reduced too but still double the EVO. This is one of those subjects you aren't suppose to talk about though.

I'm curious, if Mhz range has not changed since these test started and co need to reduce batt drain to offer more hardware / options along with lower SAR # what would be the best way ? do you build more towers so phone signal output is reduced along with improving batt. life so you can add more hardware. batt. tech has not improved enough on it's own without reducing signal draw has it ?

I think River of Ice has pointed out something we should research further.

I've emphasised the most important part of that paragraph. Also see the Forum Rules.

2. it's childish to run away in a huff just because someone questions your information.
Maybe, maybe not. Whatever one's opinion though, it should be kept off the forum. Again, see the Rules and also the Forum Specific Guidelines posted by twospirits here.

3. excessive moderation has a chilling effect and will ultimately kill a forum.
Losing members also ultimately kills a forum, and people are being turned off Android Forums by the increasingly hostile and intolerant atmosphere in this and other popular threads. The audience for threads like this extends far beyond our cosy little community, and you know the saying about mud sticking.... gain a reputation as an unfriendly site and it will take a lot of work to undo the damage.

In the end it's quite simple; don't breach the Forum Rules and you won't get moderated.
