Help Google Play Services not Working :(

For example, the latest version of Google Play Music, which was just released, now requires Version 8.1.15 of Google Play Services. But even if you update both Google Play Music and Google Play Services to their latest versions, Google Play Music will not work on the Hydro Vibe anymore..

To run the current version of Play Music, keep Play Services at 7.8.99 and ignore the update warnings. The app works just fine without 8.x.xx despite the scary popups.

Kyocera posted this response on Twitter today when someone asked for a status update on the Vibe/Google Play Services problem.

"Our team is almost done fixing the glitch, will have to get it pushed through the carriers. Trying to expedite the process ASAP."

Okay so I don't have to read 10+ pages, is there a way to prevent Google Play Services from updating to 8.x.x.x and keep it at the working ver 7? I am willing to, and know how to root my phone if needed to get this to work, as right now having to uninstall the updates then reinstall the version I want is getting really annoying. Which is what is keeping it working till they get a working fix out there.

I haven't been able to get any of the methods described in this thread to prevent Google Play Services from updating itself to work.

I think what's working for me is to let Google Play Services update itself, prevent apps from auto updating, and uninstall updates to the problematic apps. Everything works this way, but you have to use the apps in their original factory version.

I actually have a Kyocera hydro and am having similar issues. But my Google services work intermittently. I found I can Uninstaller YouTube updates and get it to work, but it updates again. My Gmail is the intermittent one.

Will this coming update apply to the Hydro as well?

The best way I have found to stop/delay Google Play Services from updating itself is to leave your phone set on data, and not Wi-Fi (and to set it so that the Google Play Store won't update your apps while your phone is on mobile data).

What happens if you refresh or reboot? I have seen this work for my phone but a reboot kills it and even if I dont reboot ot crashes eventually.

You were right. Everything was working, and then a reboot and nothing.

So my "fix" looked like it was more or less doing what others have suggested with the clearing of cache and stopping the service etc.

I don't know how those things "fix" the problem (how does "clearing" anything fix the fact that a library isn't being loaded) but yes, after a reboot or a while it seems to be broken again and now there are even MORE google apps that can be placed in the list of apps that no longer work.

Anyone seen a NON-Google app fail?

Here is my advice:

1. Make sure the version of Google Play Services on your phone is 7.8.99. If it's not, uninstall updates to Google Play Services and side-load 7.8.99. You can download it here:

http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...ices-7-8-99-2134222-030-android-apk-download/

2. Set Google Play Store to not allow for automatic updating of your apps.

3. When you're not using your phone on Wi-Fi, immediately switch it back to 4G/mobile data. This should prevent Google Play Services from updating itself, since you have disallowed your phone from updating apps while connected to mobile data.

4. If you manually update a Google app and it says you need to update Google Play Services, uninstall the updated Google app and roll it back to the last working version your phone was using before the update, which you can find and download from the APKmirror site.

(Also, check to see if Google Play Services has updated itself to 8.1.15 at this point. If it has, revert it back to 7.8.99.)

5. Do not use Android Pay. It does not work at all on the Hydro VIBE.

I have found that no other methods suggested in this thread work for disabling Google Play Services from updating itself automatically. (Rooting doesn't matter.) Google Play Services appears to have been designed by Google to aggressively override most attempts to block its automatic update function.

Yes, the virgin Mobile "my account" app under check for updates crashes with unfortunately Google has stopped error

The latest version of Google Keep requires the latest version of Google Play Services. Otherwise, it won't run.

Thus far, if you're running Version 7.8.99 of Google Play Services, these are the three Google apps you should not update:

Google Keep
Google Play Music
Google Wallet (which upgrades to Android Pay, which does not work at all on the Hydro Vibe)

Has anyone heard anything new from Kyocera or Google. At this rate we might as well start asking for a unlocked boot loader so we can get Cyanogenmod.

Nothing besides the usual "we are working on a fix and will push out through carriers soon" per the Twitter page that's where things stand. Cyanogen mod would be acceptable if they are willing to unlock

This has taken long enough, very frustrated. After reading 11 pages I share everyone's pain with no resolution except to simply wait.

UPDATE: Google released version 8.3.00 of Google Play Services, one that is compatible with the Hydro Vibe. However, it still causes essential Google apps (Drive, Gmail, Hangouts, etc.) to crash, in my testing.

I noticed that today so I reverted back to 7.8.9 -ugh! screw this. This phone has been crippled for nearly a month. Unacceptable. This situation is not making he hold confidence in Kyocera or their future products. Had two Kyocera Android devices before this (Milano and Vibe) and they were bust. The Hydro Vibe was well on its way to being that third time, lucky charm, until this happened. I actually like the Hydro Vibe... a lot. I have two of em but this.... THIS bites!
