2.1 OTA Beginning 5/11/2010

It says to back-up applications on the sd card, how do I do that? And if I do back them up and reinstall after the 2.1 OTA, will they still update from the market?
 
This is purely speculation, but us vegas users lost all data connection yesterday, maybe this was prep for the ota?
 
I've searched on some threads and asked a couple of times, no one's responded. I have never been able to sync my contacts since I've had the phone in NOvember....I can sync the gmail and calendar no problem, but never can I sync contacts. It just stays in that syncing icon forever and never does anything.

Can anyone please help me so I dont lose my CONTACTS!!!!

You could always use MyBackup or something similar. MyBackup has a 30 day trial available to use.

Check to make sure your contacts are "Google" contacts, rather than stored on the phone to make sure they are synced.

If you navigate to the "People" icon then press the "Menu" key, then "View" it will list the "Google" contacts, and "Phone" contacts.
 
WOOT!!! What do us people do with the rooted 2.1 v3? Will we still get the update since all those #s are the exact same in the PDF? Or is the root the exact same version that is being released tomorrow?
 
If this actually shows two things will happen to make me so happy:

1) I get 2.1 on my Eris

2) I was able to hold off on installing the leaks or rooting and it payed off =]

I seriously hope I wake up tomorrow morning and see a system update notification. But considering how early I have to wake up, I doubt I'll see it when I wake up. Oh well... Let's just hope Verizon isn't messing with us or if they aren't an "unexpected problem" happens and nobody gets it. I'm not getting my hopes up just yet.
 
Everyone should keep in mind that they are saying that the OTA will START tomorrow. That does not mean everyone will get it tomorrow.

The Android OS is a standard Linux/Unix type so the file system will not change at all. As an owner of a Moto Droid too, I lived through the 2.1 rollout during the Easter weekend and had no problems at all. You can all stop holding your breath and just take it easy. Follow the instructions and you'll be all fat 'n happy running 2.1 when your turn comes up. My wife will likely not even notice when the update happens...it's just a phone to her...sigh...
 
did someone really say they had a rooted 2.1v3?...thought that was just in the worx?
anyway, what to do.................. at some point im sure this update can and will be rooted too. By the people who made 2.1 ofcorse
 
Ok i backed up all my apps and data with mybackup. If/when this update comes out, how do i go about getting that all back on my phone? Do i just redownload it and enter my pin #?
 
Just a thought...the OTA didn't start for the Droid until midnight EST on it's rollout date. Therefore, don't start complaining until Thursday about it not happening (if in fact it does not happen).
