Help! Unable to install custom rom in my lenovo a526.

bitman65

Lurker
I have rooted my phone through an app Kingroot. Root checker and android terminal says my phone is rooted. I downloaded a custom rom miui for my phone which was a zip folder and put it in my sd card then I accessed android system recovery and did factory reset and wipe cache partition, then applied update from sd card but it says installation aborted!!!!!!!!! Why is this happening? I know my phone is rooted and the custom rom is indeed for my phone. One thing I didn't understand is why there is no option "install zip from sd card" in my system recovery? Are "apply update from sd card" and "install zip from sd card" same thing? Please help me because I'm desperate to use custom rom.

You can't just be rooted to install a custom ROM, you need to have a custom recovery installed.

The stock recovery that you're using cannot (and will not) install a file that is not properly signed by the manufacturer--hence the "installation aborted" message.

You'll need to find out if a custom recovery is available for your device and get that installed. I'd point you in the right direction but I'm not at all familiar with your particular device, I'm afraid.

Cheers and I hope that clears things up a bit.

Okay I downloaded an img file "recovery_A526_031_TWRP2500" and placed it in my sd card but I don't know how to install it. I installed an app "TWRP manager" but it says custom recovery not detected. I'm ****ing frustrated!!!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!!! Please help!!!!!!!!!!!

You just can't place the custom recovery .img file on your SD card...you have to have a program/process to flash it over your stock recovery.

A Google search for "custom recovery for lenovo a526" these links as the top two results:

I would imagine that would get you where you want to be.

Bear in mind that even rooting your device never mind replacing your custom recovery means you will no longer get OTA updates.

Best of luck.

Thanks! I was able to install custom rom, everything was fine but then I decided to go back to stock rom so I flashed the stock rom through sp flash tool but a <mod-redacted> thing happened. Now it's showing "invalid imei." I decided to fix this through maui meta 3g but god knows why isn't it detecting my phone. I also installed cdc drivers manually but found no luck. Please help!

I wish I could help, bitman65, but I only offered general advice about custom ROMs and recoveries and tried to point you towards a possible means to accomplish what you wanted to do (which you did), but I don't have any personal knowledge or experience with your particular device that might help you.

:(

You need a custom recovery to install a custom ROM like this one. Find one on XDA-Developers which is made for your phone's current firmware and exact model number. I hope it helped.
