Help Determine the source of a sound...

A

Android Question

Guest
Hello,

My phone is constantly making a noise, similar to an alert sound when I receive a text, but not the same sound. This happens often and I can't determine the source of said sound. I am really wondering A) what the sound means and B) what is causing it. I've tried tracking battery usage and killing apps that might be producing the sound in the background but that process of elimination doesn't seem to be working.

Is there any method to identify what program might be pushing a sound out the phone speaker historically?

I'm on an HTC One M8, software version 4.25.651.18.
My phone is not rooted.

Please let me know if you can help :).

How often does this sound occur? i.e. Every "X" amount of time?
How short or long is the tone?
I would assume there is no indication of said tone in the notification area?

It is random, but it only happens when the phone screen is turned on.

It is very short, same length as a text message alert. It sounds like two little trumpet blasts. Duh DAH!

No notification. And I've watched the area to see if things like GPS or the phone signal or wifi are connecting/disconnecting when it happens but I don't see any visual connection...

Hmm, well, for more help I've moved your thread into the M8 forum.
Perhaps someone who has the same device as you will know what that sound could be coming from, or has heard it before.
:)
Good luck with your issue, but I'll check back here to see if a resolution has been found. I'm kinda interested myself ;)
