WiFi Tethering Hack

If I were to save a recovery image (I guess that's how you say it) minus the system apps of course (guessing about that), would I be able to flash that to a new phone of the same exact model? This Volt is plenty of phone for me, I don't see the need to upgrade but I've had this one for about a year and a half and I was thinking about buying another one as a backup since they're so dirt cheap, just wondering if this is possible, maybe alter my IMEI number somehow to make it appear as though it's the same phone? Lol LOTS of guesswork here :p

Unlikely... At least not without lots of modifying the backup. It would be easier to periodically sync the data between the phones through Google or something.

If you have the My Android Tools app, go to the Android System and uncheck "Tethering$ Entitlement Check Service" and your wifi tethering will work for free I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, I just tried it on a hunch and it totally works

Where exactly is that option in the app? I've gone to every menu option and have not found it.

Going back to the original topic I'd still like to know where to find the option that enables tethering. I downloaded My Android Tools by WangQi and couldn't find it anywhere. Is it only in the paid version?

I'm not seeing it either...
There's no need to mess with this though, is a simple build.prop and APN edit. Just add the lines to your build.prop and add dun to your apn types with shortcut master.

Yeah I've already done the build.prop and shortcut master thing and have it working. I just thought this might be an easy way to undo it if I ever needed to. Like a few months ago when they pushed out LS740ZV6 to address the stage-fright vulnerability but I couldn't apply it to my phone because of the modified files. (My PC hard drive died which had the only copy of my original build.prop and stock ROM). I did get it all sorted out though and eventually took the update.

Yeah, I always make a copy of system files when I have to edit them. This is a nice non invasive alternative though. :)
