PLEASE HELP, Can't Root!

JC193

Lurker
So I recently got a Lenovo K3 Note. The stock ROM was full of bloatware so I decided to install a new ROM.

I rooted the phone with no problems at first using Kingroot (phone app), then I flashed TWSRP using Flashify, and finally, I installed the most recent official ROM from Lenovo free of bloatware. It was free of bloatware indeed, and also free of Google Apps.

The new ROM had no custom recovery and was not rooted. I didn't think this was much of a problem, I would just re-root the phone and install another rom. However, I couldn't root the phone again. I tried Kingroot, Kingoroot (on the pc), iRoot (both the pc and android app), none of them worked.

So now I'm stuck with a phone I can't seem to root and with a crappy ROM with no Google Apps.

I'm a bit desperate now because I paid a lot of money for this phone and I can't seem to get it working properly right now.

Please, can someone help me find a way to root this phone or just fix this problem?

INFO:
Android Version: 5.1
Build Number: VIBEUI_V2.8_1544_5.192.1_ST_K50-T5

Perhaps there's a way to install a custom recovery without rooting, so that then I can recover my backup and go back to my old ROM which was rootable?

Please, please help!

Thank you

Welcome to our AndroidForums, @JC193.

Not sure if you've visited this thread (or it's associated area) over at XDA:

but kind of looks like your bootloader is unlocked and you can simply fastboot flash a custom recovery and then install the UPDATE-SuperSU-v#.##.zip file to root your device.

Does that ring true?

Otherwise, have a look are the http://forum.xda-developers.com/k3-note/general area and make sure there's not a 5.1 root solution for you.

Cheers and best of luck!

Hello, thank you for your reply!

I hadn't visited that thread before but it looks like a solution to my problem, that is, if my bootloader is indeed unlocked. How can I check if my bootloader is unlocked?

At the moment I have no custom recovery and my phone is not rooted (and will not root by any conventional methods thus far).

Thank you very much!

Your'e most welcome :).

Put your phone in fastboot/bootloader mode and type this:

fastboot getvar all

and look for the line with "unlocked" on it. Or, you can type this:

fastboot getvar unlocked

Here's what that returns for my Nexus 5:

ScaryAlien@LV-426 ~
$ fastboot getvar unlocked
unlocked: yes
finished. total time: 0.001s

Not 100% certain that will work for you (the guys over at XDA can probably guide you best).

Sorry, seems like I fell in the bad habit of not posting an answer to my own thread once I solved my problem...

I managed to root my phone by flashing a custom recovery and supersu through the cmd on my computer.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the tutorial I used again, but I hope this might help anyone who comes across the same problem.

Thanks everyone for your help nonetheless!
