Help Cannot factory reset or get DL mode

FoneFuzz

Newbie
Picked up Volt from eBay, seller said it was user-locked. Figured this would be fun to troubleshoot and get working. This is a Boost phone but has Sprint sim card and thought there may have been some additional monkeying around inside the phone, too. Anyways, tried to factory restore but all I get is the LG logo displaying and disappearing. Tried every other button combination to no avail. It would not show up when connected to my PC and, as the screen is user-locked (pattern) I can't select storage device.

I went here and read the posts dealing with flashing in DL mode and so forth. I have installed/removed/reinstalled the LG drivers linked here and restarted my PC several times. The Volt just will not show up in device manager at all. When I plug the usb cable in with vol up I can see device manager rolling up and down again like it is trying to figure something out. On the phone all I get is the LG logo and then the battery charge icon. And, of course, like this I can't even get to the com port setting to flash the device. Seems I read somewhere that if the phone was user-locked neither would work. Just wanted to pass this along and get someone's input. If this has been bricked to kingdom come then at least I have a second battery and charger for my other Volt!

Unplug, pull the battery, put the battery back in, hold volume up, hold volume up, insert usb, and keep holding. If nothing happens they may have tried unlocking the bootloader, in which case you can try to do an "adb reboot-bootloader" after the phone is booted and then use the bootloader to boot a recovery image. If none of this works there should be other more complicated options like booting off the sdcard.

For the volume up attempt I get the LG logo, then battery charge icon, then screen goes blank. If I use a volume up-power hold attempt I get the repeating LG logo. I've read that adb only works if debugging was selected in settings, which is a 50/50 gamble. I installed a couple of Android device manager apps and none would connect to the Volt. I've even tried connecting through Linux and got nothing. I don't give up easily and am willing to try anything out there.

Nice good work there but for further future reference get lucky or try unlocking the pattern locked user screen with a magnet ... it works. I've unlocked screens like this before and have also accessed cracked and shattered screens to successfully get to the home screen with a magnet

good work tho.
