Honor 5X AMA (ask me anything)

Those pics look really decent. What modes does the camera have? On the Mate 8 there's a time-lapse mode that seems like it would be really neat for making quick time lapses.
Filter and mode screenshots attached. There is also a burst mode that snaps like 5-7 pics at a time and lets you chose the one that came out best. It's either long press on power or volume down as I activated it while taking the second screenshot. Also, the normal perfect selfie tutorial / filter is available for the front facing camera, and you can long press the fingerprint scanner to activate the shutter.

I've been using the Honor 5X for a couple weeks now as a tester for Huawei. I'm not the best at writing out comprehensive reviews that touch on all the features, but I'll do my best to answer your questions on this exciting new phone.

So go ahead, as me anything.:)
Any word on sales via carrier (T-Mobile/MetroPCS | AT&T/Cricket)?

I'm Jumping out of my Note5 next month & this would be a good candidate to Jump into...............

What is the airspeed of a coconut laden swallow?

Oh, sorry, wrong forum. :p

What is the audio quality like? Both though it's own speaker and a headset? I'm kinda spoiled with the front-facing speakers on the N6. That said, the wife is still driving an S3 and I would seriously consider getting her the gold one (especially since I just got her an iPod for Christmas .... gold, of course.)

As to the software, is this a themed and bloated monstrosity like Sammy and HTC? or are they lean and mean, just a hair shy of pure AOSP?

Sorry for the delay, I ended up a little under the weather last night.:(

The Honor brand is sold direct to consumer via the web only. I don't think you will see any sales via carrier. I think I saw sales are going through Amazon and www.hihonor.com/us right now.

African or European? And there is never a wrong forum for that.:p

The sound is very good, possibly a touch on the loud side through the speakers on the bottom. I haven't used a headset, but I've used an external speaker and my truck, both via bluetooth and it seems fine to me. My wife went from an S3 to the P8 LIte and is very happy. This is almost the same internals as the P8L with the addition of a metal body, larger screen, and fingerprint scanner. As an upside, the battery life is so incredible on these devices that she didn't miss the massive 4700mA second battery I purchased for her S3.

As to the #BlameEMUI was a call to arms during testing. It is skinned to look like iOS and has no app drawer. Installed apps are just randomly place on a homescreen where there is room. There is a way to hide them, but it isn't at all good in my opionion. Two other annoyances are notifications and protecte apps. Each app that raises notifications to the status bar needs to be explicitely allowed. Unlike native Android it is a white list, not black list. The other is that there is an in built task manager that tries to take the place of native Android task management (read, Automatic Task Killer) and this is again, run by a white list, not a black list. This one is at least very easy to shut down and you can add all apps to the white list (protected) in two quick clicks, and then it runs like normal Android.

As far as bloat, mine came with Amazon, Twitter, Facebook, Facetune and one or two others that I forget. The good news is that they are put in a folder called top apps and can be fully uninstalled. Easy to find and easy to remove.

As far as the gold, I didn't think I would like it, and I tried not to like it when I first got it. It has grown on me and now I'm a fan.

I am an existing Verizon Wireless customer. Can I use this phone on Verizon network?

Thanks
This does not support CDMA channels used by both Verizon Wireless and Sprint. I hear some people are using it on Google Fi, but I'm not clear on whether they are able to make actual calls or just VOIP calls, and I haven't tried.

For the size of the phone, it is very comfortable in my hand. The weight feels correct for the phone if that makes sense. I haven't had that feeling since my OG Droid, where it didn't feel like holding a dainty, fragile, toy that didn't have the heft to slide out of my hand and smash on impact with the ground.

The last mainstream phone I used was the 2013 Moto X Developer Edition, and I'd say this compares very well with that. I'm not going to project how I think it will work against phones I've never used, but I'm mostly happy with performance and expect it to get better over the life of the phone. A spec comparison to the Nexus 5X seems favorable. I'd be hard pressed to say the Nexus 5X is $150 better short of wanting AOSP.

what connectivities do they come with out of box
I think it is compatible with all non-CDMA US carriers and MVNOs. I just popped in my nano sim and SD card before starting the activation process and it was fine. I'm using AT&T via Net 10.

Full specs can be found here, including all the supported frequencies and bands.

Hi
I have desire 200 and won't turn it on
Can u help me

One thing that has become common practice on Huawei devices is to protect all apps in settings. It's a real PITA that there inbuild task management is a black list based task killer. Protecting all apps works to shut that down. Myself and other testers have asked that if they won't remove the task killer, at least make everything protected to start and let the user decide if a bad acting app should be listed.
Ftfy

By default, nearly everything is whitelisted - the EMUI task manager is free to take over.

Protecting everything defaults to the phone to mostly just Android task management - as Unforgiven said, it makes a big difference in fluidity.

I guess that's perspective. I'm looking at it like anything not protected is blacklisted and open for ATK activities. Either way, everything should be protected by default at least, ideally, the whole EMUI task manager would just be removed and let Android do what it's been effective doing since Eclair (or Froyo???).

Well, it's an AMA, so your question stands. :p

I know nothing about HTCs and can't quite put my finger on what phone you have, so the short answer is no.:( That said, post back with a model number or better description of the phone and I or one of the other mods will move your question where it is most likely to get some help.:)

Looks like my question has been answered and that this does have EMUI. How is EMUI on this device?
Less terrible than it is on other devices. This is the best iteration of EMUI I've used yet, and they are still trying to improve performance. Now it's more along the lines of I don't like EMUI instead of EMUI isn't useable. It still has it's shortcomings but you can run it as a daily driver without having to reboot daily.

As best I can tell from Crickets BYOD page they support GSM unlocked phones, which is exactly what this is.
Thanks for fast reply this phone looks good I want to get it now I have a zte grand x max+ but this looks like a good upgrade I'll wait to see if they get root and a custom recovery them I'm all set

This hardware would fly with CM.

I'm currently using a Nexus 4 as my daily phone. And a V10 as my work phone. I am thinking about upgrading my N4 to either a Nexus 5X or an Honor 5X. Do you think the N5X is worth the extra money?

How good is the phone's performance? I mean Antutu Benchmark results, Basemark and etc.
I don't really put any stock into benchmarks, but if I get a chance later today when I get home I'll run them and post the results.
