*#*#checkin#*#*

Yeah, but it helps pass the time while you wait.

Can't download any new games, since they may be wiped by the update, so we gotta do something....

That is about it.

However there is an outside, long shot chance that the checkin service will acquire the OTA at some point down the line.

Looooonnnnnngggg shot. ;)

Well, as I understand it from past readings, the phone only checks so many times for an update. You may be queued up for the OTA but your phone hasn't checked in. May get you the update a few hours early. Then again, OTA may be a total different deal. I don't know.

Hehehe...Update....for Dolphin Browser!
The new home page for Dolphin shows "Today's App" and spotlights new apps I have never heard of...like Drunk Blocker. When activated it blocks the numbers you program from accidently calling during times of inebriation!

Use that code on the dialer to have a rolling update/upgrade available to your device no matter where you are in the release schedule geographically.

Do NOT press "call" after entering *#*#CHECKIN#*#*, just watch the notification area for a prompt that you are checked in.

Then go to the usual area to check for software updates and, as long as the rolling update/upgrade has started, it will come to your device.

I just tried it and it works, it checked me in. No update, of course, but the notification area did indicate I was "checked in."

Sorry if this has been posted before. I've not seen it.
How come you guys took off the questions i had asked about the originality of this thread? My reasoning behind starting this was for information on something and now its exploded into something else... i totally did not expect that when i started it lol

When you began the thread, did you notice a popup text field just above your input area showing all threads with checkin in the title?

if your talking about the checkin success field text than yea but it said this** Java.Null.PointerException**
on my thread a goodfella said something about it being a java load error and to reboot so i did and it went away
wierd...

I really could care less about the OTA cause Verizon in arizona slack alot and seems they dont care about any OTA's for customers.. However, I may be dead wrong and my statement is based merely on opinion (mine) so feel free to correct me...
I am really hoping for the .zip to be pulled so i can do it manually
I feel more nerdy when i have a reason to throw my eris into bootloader and DO IT MYSELF!!!! haha

No no, amigo.

When you start a thread here at the forums; one of the features, while you're doing that, just after inputting your title, is a popup text field showing you similar threads in existence.

The idea is to attempt to cut down on duplicate, redundant threads in here.

I dont wanna see a bunch of threads that are off topic and pointless
thanks for clearing that up for me

gonna sound like a dummy, but how do you check for updates?

In your dialer press *#*#CHECKIN#*#*
Do not press send, it will automatically do its thing and give you a message that checkin was successful.
This will get app updates if they are available, but doesnt seem to grab the OTA although one person yesterday said it did for him.
Also Menu>Settings?About Phone>System Updates
This is where your system updates will be waiting for you if you have one waiting to be installed.

i was playing with my buddys hero the other day by sprint and his had an option to check for sys updates and you push it and it says checking for updates, the eris only has an option to see if any updates avail not actually check but i think the checkin service may do what his hero does...i thought that was a cool feature to be able to push check for system updates and it actually checks it right there for you... i wish eris had that!!

you guys remember a while ago when a poster said he updated his prl to an alltel prl on his eris???? well i tried it a while ago and it sucked and i just did it again with leak 3 and i have 2 bars at my house where before with the vzw prl i only had 0 to 1 bar

Yesterday i went to the verizon store to change my number and as I walked in the door 3 of my apps popped up with updates.

Are they runing some type of router to locate phones in the store and run this command. I found it very interesting.
