Help HTC Desire 820 won't turn on or charge!

Hello all,

I am having the same issue with my HTC desire 820. It went for repair but they find no solution. They say the phone is dead now and cant be repaired. If you find any solution please let me know.
I love this smartphone. Already bought a Samsung Note but I want to bring the HTC 820 to life again.

I can see that many of us are having this issue which seems to be a common one. Hope we can repair it.

I am having the same issue. My phone is out warranty now. been 14 months since i bought the my htc desire 820. last saturday i updated to marshmallow and after a few minutes it stopped working. I showed at the htc service center and they told me my pcb has been damaged and that it would cost 70%(around 15K) of the original cost of phone.
Any suggestions please?

I am facing same problem too. guys we have to register consumer complaint as it was the HTC's fault so why should we pay for it!!!

We should file the consumer complaint for it. because it must be a company's fault. why should we pay for it.

Dear All,

Please provide your mobile number, so we could be in contact with each other. I'll make a whatsapp group for HTC 820 desire problem. We'll decide then what shall be done. whether we go for consume complaint against the HTC or anything else. because many people are facing same problem. n the fault is of company so why should we pay for them.

I've had the phone for 4 months, it was on 15% battery and I went to check it, it was turned off, I thought it must've been dead so put it on charge and instead of a solid LED light coming on, it just blinked once then I tried a different outlet, different cord, different charger base, everything, still doesn't appear to be charging, cant remove the battery, won't soft reset. Anyone know what to do? It's been charging for 3-4 hours so far. Any help would be appreciated.
Well I had similar issues with my HTC desire 820 as it completely shut down without possible means to get it powered back on.... I charged it for hour, tried the power button together with the lower volume rocker but no avail so I gave up..After two days I was surprised it finally responded to charge with full functions. I advice you be patient and avoid fiddling with the phone so it doesn't resort to major complications. Try changing after 2-3 days, you just might be lucky and if not then I recommend a technical assistance.

Dear all,
i contacted htc. they tell if the get complaints on the same model from lots of ppl. they wil look into the matter.
please post your complaints on facebook page and let them know . its very usefull https://www.facebook.com/HTCIndia
How many complaints they wants?? Any update on your mobile Mr.Sherwin Francis????? The f***king manager of HTC service centre told me that you have to pay 10K. HTC did't told me or update me regarding the issue that if many HTC 820 users complained about same then HTC will look in to the matter to resolve the problem.

No one can help you Now...Sorry but it's true. Dnt waste your time and money in HTC ever again. They made totally crap mobiles which works fine for 1 year then needs repair which cost almost half of total purchase cost. tell me did you update ur HTC to marshmallow?
Provide your mobile number...Pls

I didnt update to marshmallow, it was running fine on lolipop until this happened number 8146539714. in 2 years i lost total 36K to HTC i had previously HTC desire 816 which had similar issue and became dead, now my htc desire 820 dual sim is also facing the same face. when i purchased it i thought its a quality product sincce htc manufactures its products in taiwan and not china i spent extra bucks only for quality and this is what i got in return. probably a dead mother board :/.

Maybe it has the same issue the M7 or maybe it was the M8 where it wouldn't turn on. You would hold the phone under a bright light while holding volume up, volume down, and power for a few minutes.

Can't remember the exact button combination but it's worth a try.
It had to do with some kind of a sensor if i remember right.

Hold power key+volume up+volume down for 2-3 min if screen will on then Bingo u don't have to pay 10k but if it won't turn on then throw the HTC and never buy HTC products in life. Coz most of HTC users face same problem and there must be something behind it like they want to make more money by Service center too....

A bit of hyperbole there: I know a lot of HTC users and not one has had this problem. Maybe this particular model has a fault (dual-SIM phones are rare in the UK, so I don't know anyone with this model), or maybe you are just extrapolating from seeing a few reports (since people who don't have a problem don't generally post, the internet always gives a distorted impression of how common problems really are). But "most HTC users face the same problem" is certainly not true, and the idea that they would release a faulty phone in order to make money from servicing is nonsense: since the most likely response to a fault is that people buy a different brand next time that would be an absurd and suicidal strategy for any company.

It was the M7 where holding the power button down to force a restart didn't work on some phones unless you were in a brightly-lit area: a feature intended to prevent unintended restarts in a pocket that was miscalibrated on some handsets (my own doesn't have this problem, in fact will restart even if I put my thumb over the light sensor). But certainly worth a try here. Holding power by itself should force a shutdown or restart, pressing "volume down" while booting gets you into the bootloader, from where you can access recovery and try a factory reset (I think that once in recovery you need to press power and volume up together to get the recovery menu - as I use custom recoveries I don't have much experience of the stock HTC recovery). Mind you, if you can get into recovery it's worth trying just rebooting the phone before doing a reset.

Orange light blinking when charging usually means something is overheating and that it's therefore disabled charging. Since charging generates heat itself I'd suggest leaving it to cool a bit before trying again - especially if it's a hot day already. Of course if overheating is due to a fault that won't help.

If the charging light doesn't come on at all (for a model that has a charging light) that's a bad sign. In that case try a different cable, different charger, check the socket for dirt that might be blocking the connection (if there is anything there be careful cleaning - try a blower or a soft brush, do not us a metal pick because you can easily damage the connector itself), and if all else fails shut the device down fully and leave it on charge overnight. But if none of that works and it still doesn't even detect that the charger is connected you may well have a dead motherboard, in which case nothing you do will help.

Thank you people for reply, i had tried every possible key combination.. but it didnt work. and yes it may be due to overheat since i had played pokemon go on it for about 1 hour and then started using facebook. but i left it to cool down overnight then tried again it didnt work. i have given it to sevice centre they are checking lets see what happens. I will post updates

I talked to the engineer who looked after my phone he said that he tried to change the pcb which is responsible for chargine and phone turned on, it remained on for 1 day but after that it got off again and with same blinking led problem, he claims that it is motherboard problem indeed :( could it be? My question is if it was motherboard problem then why phone turned on at first place and remained on for 24 hours?

If it was software then reflashing using an RUU (which will wipe the device and install a fresh set of stock firmware) should fix it. Did any of these phone repairers try or suggest that?
