Worth having installed?

I have run into issues with the FB app because it seems to run so hard and ends up draining my battery. I go back and forth with having the official app installed and just using the web client. It isn't half bad but I liked being able to using the FB app to auth my accounts on different apps. Any there any other reasons to have the Facebook app installed?

the only 'good reason' is it more thoroughly meshes with FB.

I uninstalled it two or three times, and tried just use clone apps, and then just browser access.
The latter, a browser is just about neutered for being useful.

I have it installed once again, but I have all the permissions turned off, all I let it do is work when I open it up. I also keep DATA turned OFF when my phone is not in use...

However, the last week, I have been experiencing a much worse Battery Life than normal.
I used to get a full day per charge, now I am recharging the phone at a minimum of 3 times a day.

when I unlock the phone, WiFi is turned of with a Macro, and when the screen locks, the macro turns Wifi OFF again.

but, that is NOT working this time for me in preserving the battery.
I am not happy right now..... so, I hope that this 2nd VZW release for MM comes with good reviews.

So, is the Poor Battery Performance related to FB? or to MM?

I am going to uninstall FB right now, and watch to see what happens.

I bet you could disable some of the features like notifications, uninstall messenger and moments and any other Facebook app... Maybe try to block/disable the background processes.

I should look into this to see what specifically is draining the battery.

The poster is correct saying FB is not letting you check your message without the app. Not anymore. I refuse to install the app for the usual reasons everyone mentioned. The workaround I use is just to check messages I select "request desktop site" from the Firefox menu temporarily. It works.

This is just stupid. So stupid. Unless they finally fix the monsterous battery and ram consumptions of their apps they should be a shamed of themselves of even thinking of removing a feature that simply works on a platform that is more light, easily accessible and less prone to bugs. Then there is the outrageous storage consumption of the app when just having a browser won't exceed like 40-70mb and even lighter to some.

When the time comes that I can't chat on FB using a wrapper or a browser I'll be sure to always have my Windows 10 2-and-1 tablet.

I'm no fan of having excessively many apps installed on my phone. But I can use Samsung's battery utility in the Settings menu (I'm using an S7 Edge, fyi) and check what percentage of my battery drain is attributed to each of the running apps. Facebook is nowhere near the top; in fact it doesn't even show up if I don't open it between battery charges. Is there any word on whether this Samsung utility is an accurate indicator of where the phone's battery power is going?

I use Messenger no matter what because nothing else has chat heads style floating bubbles (and the few that do are absolute crap)

As for the main app... I install it when setting my device up as those apps that use Facebook login can pull the Facebook apps login info without entering it (and 2FA codes) 100s of times.

My Facebook/Messenger apps run flawlessly. I've never had any significant battery drain from either of them. I'm running stock Android on a SGS4.

^^^ Are you Mark Zuckerberg incognito? I've got an SG4 and Facebook and Messenger cause nothing short of a catastrophe on it.
You're not kidding! Fbook & Messenger are a constant drain on battery. Catastrophe it is.. Plus had to show family that the Fbook app was like a 30MB DL but expands to over 200MB. Then ppl are also like "what's wrong with my battery & where'd all my space go..??" Messenger isn't far being but not quite as bad. I'm still trying to figure out why the Fbook app was asking for su permissions a yr or so ago. Screw that.. Just use a browser. [emoji85] [emoji86] [emoji87]
