Sorry. I guess I should have clarified that a little better. Prior to the OTA, my phone has been really laggy especially the dialer. To the point I was getting sort of frustrated and considering dumping the phone. I have only been running the OTA for a little while now (I couldnt keep my eyes open more than an hour after I installed it). So the jury is out until I have had more time to use the phone.

I'm curious for two reasons, one general, the other specific: 1. I've been thinking that a phone with problems on the stock 1.5 (and/or a leak) will have problems crop up on the OTA, and 2. I'm wondering about the telephone itself; dialing and using the phone to navigate automated menus, etc.

Also, related to the phone and messaging, two stock apps/features in 1.5 Eris: "people" and "phones" always seemed redundant to me, and merely slightly different method paths to doing the same things.

I never got a lot of fc except on Google Voice. It was mainly the dialer lag followed by lag in some other apps like Gmail and the browser that were driving me to drink. I see your point about the redundancy on those two. Never really thought about it before :)

Are "people" and "phones" a part of the 2.1 OTA? Sheesh.. I was hoping somebody would have noticed, in development, that only one of those is needed.

I know I can have one of them or neither of them on my screen, but still. ..

People and Phone are both still in there. The real redundancy IMO at least if you are running Sense is between Phone and then having the Phone button on the bottom of the screen (that is always there no matter which of the 7 screens you are on). Probably why I never gave Phone a thought before.

I don't mean the Phone button. I am referring to "phones": long-press an empty space on a screen, then folder, then live folder, then Phones.

I find "phones" to be a bit more user friendly than "people."

Don't need "people," and don't have it on a screen. I'd rather it didn't exist... etc.. :p

Oooohhhhhh! I see! Duh. Sorry. Yes I definitely see what you mean. A difference in format (no pics load with the Phones tap and it seems to load a little faster) but is redundant information.

I cant remember if this was on Moto Droid 2.0 (i think maybe) but I am really happy to be able to finally turn off the haptic feedback on the 4 soft keys.

2.1 came to my phone this morning.

After about 45 minutes of configuring and running apps, browsing the internet with the stock browser, messaging and making one phone call, I can declare it very nice on my Eris.

Of course, 1.5 was very nice on my Eris, too. ;)

Ok ok.. 2.1 seems snappier and does have prettier icons. .. lol.

I now have 2.1 and...

1) Had to rebuild all my screens (not a big deal at all)
2) All my e-mail seems to be gone!! (A big deal)
3) All my contacts were missing, but I had them backed up and just resynched

Seems like all my applications are still there, as well as all the data on my card.

I wonder why some user's contacts vanished when updating; mine are all there and never went away.. emails remain as well (I only have gmail set up on this device for emailing).

Other than redoing the "scenes," nothing omitted following the procedure (and an extra reboot.. I did that about 5 minutes after it rebooted itself when finished).

Frisco is on 2.1!!!!!!!!! Wow, I honeslty expected you to try and ignore it forever. LOL

How do you like it so far?

It's a pip, OTD.

I've been running every app I use, browsing, viewing YouTube videos, messaging and making calls; all is well, as was with 1.5 only quicker.

No bugs, no complaints.. it seems to be a true update and not a mess of eye candy or whatever.

I'm watching battery life.

I've seen none of the issues reported in the 2.1 bugs thread.

Have to give it a little time, but I think this proves our theory about 2.1. Garbage in garbage out. There are regular bugs that a patch should fix, but I really think the big ones have nothing to do with the OS itself.

I didn't lose any contacts when I upgraded to 2.1, but it seemed to take forever to get the pictures from FB to sync. It took so long that I didn't think it was working.

No clue why some lost contacts, and others didn't

The e-mail thing is damn strange. These were POP accounts. The data is all there on the SD card under the .mail folder, but the standard mail tool won't see them. E-mails from today come up in the e-mail tool, but do NOT show up on the SD card under the mail folder!!! So it must be putting mail somewhere else. I just need to find where that is, and it does NOT appear to be on the SD card! Yikes!

It sounds like the update wrecked the link between the actual email app and the data on the card.

I'd do a reset and then, that failing, would take it in to Verizon.

Yeah.. this is being repeated around in various threads, with few exceptions.

It's a shame, because assuming we're not talking re-furbs, those who purchased an Eris which has bugs cropping up are not getting the quality that those of us with bugless devices got.

There are several factors, though. I'm thinking about the differences in behavior I noticed following a simple reboot or battery pull, after a day or two's usage, and even just after the update.

Also, user habits and abuses, I have noticed. One of my co-workers leaves her Eris on the dash board of her car, in the sun, while she's driving. I've mentioned to her many times that doing that could be one of the reasons she's seeing poor response when using the phone or texting or whatever.

People bang these things around, carry them in their jeans pockets, put them in the sun, drain the battery down to zero on a regular basis, fill them with dozens of applications, accumulate hundreds upon hundreds of messages and emails and phone history, etc... and then we start seeing postings about wiggy behavior in their devices.

There certainly are buggy ones, but I'm thinking that we might be seeing more and more "bugs" from the aforementioned user behaviors than from bad phones from the factory as they get into the hands of the masses at large. ;)

I just got the update this morning and so far I love it! I've been on stock 1.5 since November and have been looking forward to this day for a while. Had to resync my contacts and reboot to relink them to FB, but so far that's all.

Did the Facebook sync go well?

Mine did, but I've seen some bad reports in here.

One of the things that I have seen is that some folks don't want all their facebook contacts on their phone, neither did I. One cool thing that someone posted way back in another thread was the ability to just sync the pics from facebook with only the matching contacts from your phone. This way, you get their facebook pics for the matching contacts without having all the other contacts from facebook. The app in the market is called SyncMyPix. I did have to uninstall facebook app ( which removes all those contacts), re-add the facebook app and quickly go to the Settings->Accounts and Sync and turn Sync Contacts off for Facebook. Then I fired up the SyncMyPix app and got just the matching pics....nice.
