Official EVO Rumors and Speculation thread

Now that Sprint's officially announced the EVO and also announced that it will not, in fact, be offering the Nexus One, it's reassuring to see that the EVO is now being advertised directly by Google on the official Nexus One order page:

https://www.google.com/phone/choose?hl=en&gl=US&s7e

I'm hoping that this is also a sign that Google knows it needs to support phones equivalent to the Nexus One, such as the EVO 4G and the Incredible on Verizon, and will commit to addressing the fragmentation issue, especially on these newest flagship devices. Google knows that both Verizon and Sprint customers will primarily be experiencing Android through these two phones, since they have absolutely no opportunity of purchasing and using the Nexus One as long as they remain at their current carriers.

So, in addition for this being a form of additional advertising for Sprint, let's keep our fingers crossed that this might also be a sign that Google's committing to get us regular OS upgrades, such as Froyo, sooner rather than later. :)

Wow! I keep learning new things too. I have the Touch Pro 2 now and I called HTC yesterday to just ask if they knew what accessories came in the box. This lady was really nice and we chatted for like 20 minutes. She's on T-Mobile has the Pro 2 also said she got it for her 70 year old mother who wanted a smart phone and she didn't like it or understand it so she got her the Erexis whatever it is and how she loves it and it's so easy. She said Android is so user friendly and I am going to like it so much better than windows mobile. She said later on T Mobile is suppose to get one which that is where the name Supersonic came from and they will call there's that name. But will see! But she had no idea of accessories. My pro 2 had a screen protector.

So last night my friend comes over who also is getting one and we are both so pysched about this phone. He's coming from a BB Tour. I at least have a touch screen and HTC now but still Android will be totally new to me. I was still learnig Win Mo cause it was my 1st smart phone ever. My coworker just got the moment yesterday and I am hoping it has 2.1 so I can play around with it. We watched videos for like 2 hours. LOL!

But I get a 23% discount through my work also and I called this guy at the EVP. I already got my confirmation email and it said once it's processes and being shipped I'll get another email. I was told yes it could be shipped a week to a couple days early. I went this route so I could bill to my account. Want to know the best part I live in Louisville Kentucky where the warehouse is. So I'll get my the day there shipped. No overnight shipping for me it will come to my house that day. Now lets hope UPS comes before I go to work.

And about the car dock. I really want one and if the HD2 came with one wow that would be cool for us to get one. I read there is going to be an added surprise closer to launch date so maybe that's it. I mean I know it probably won't come with one but by the looks of the box I am leaning on yes maybe it could come with. Does anyone know where to get one at and if they make them where you can set the phone in the dock wither landscape or portrait. Like if you turn the phone will the GPS turn and be able to be used both ways? I saw the holster type car dock but I am hoping to have one like the person mentioned that the nexus one uses. My phone now has a setting auto answer after so many rings and I always have a blue tooth in my ear while driving. So I guess if this phone had it i could turn that setting on. But now my phone just sits in the seat next to me and I usually pick it up to answer or press my headset button to answer. But if the speaker phone works great on this phone while in the dock then I won't need my headset.

But Ok I want this phone so bad I can't wait for it to come out.

Ha, that was probably me. I asked Rob to get the goods on the dock and if the phone had the app in his thread asking what we wanted to know from the event on the 12th. I've got big plans for in car use with this device. The only piece of the puzzle that is missing is whether or not answering a call while the phone is docked will automatically switch it to speakerphone. Having to press "answer" to pick it up and then having to press "menu" and then "speakerphone" just to hear the call would be a usability fail while driving.

The Nexus One dock gets around this by connecting to speakers that are in the dock via bluetooth so you can take calls on speakerphone. I hope the Evo dock has those speakers too. All the shots of the Evo dock I have seen (not many) look exactly like the nexus one dock, so here's hoping!

Had to share my story, cuz I never really asked for this before. I called Business customer service (since I get discount for my bill because of the corp. I work at) and got connected to billing. I asked them if I could get the "loyalty" credit, since my contract is ending and I was planning on extending for 2 years due to my getting the EVO in June. They said no problem and I got $70 per line (3 lines total)! LOL...That covers my $10 per month EVO fee for 21 months (well, 7 months if I upgrade the other 2 lines with EVO's also), but who knows if I'll even keep the EVO after 1 year. Before she completed that, I asked her very specifically, "Would you please make sure that this won't affect my ability to upgrade my phone?" Her answer was, "No, it will not have any effect on your phone upgrade eligibility."

That was so unexpected, but SO glad some people mentioned it on here! I also inquired about waiving the $10 fee, if 4G isn't available to me by the time of launch and she seemed to think there'd be no problem with that and that Sprint might be able to work something out for me. I'd have to call back to do this, but seems like it'd be easy to have them waive the fee as others have already done.

thanks for verification...

now i need to figure out the EPRP deal that's going on... this is getting pretty frustrating as we cannot confirm if EVO will be available for activation on EPRP plans.

am i hearing correctly that the evo is no longer coming in black and white? just black?
it was never announced that it was coming in black and in white, everything i saw was that it was coming in balck and thats it. the one vid that showed a white back was a prototype that Qik had (and the white back was prob to help deisguise what it was/how it would look), but that was it and no other info showed anything but black

So, for the loyalty thing, must you be a sprint customer for a long time? I'm like 3 months away from finishing my first 2-year contract so it probably wouldn't work for me...

I am guessing they just have that box flared out to show it off, I bet when it ships the box will either be smaller or folded smaller at least. I don't see a phone shipping with that big foam area sticking out of the top.

Like I mentioned in another post, some people think because a guy in the video said the docker would ship along with the Evo that it meant it would come with it included, when someone says "shipping along" they mean along side not included with so they just meant it'll be coming out at the same time.

It's more-so dependent on when your 2 year agreement will be done. Mine was going to expire in October 2010, but that's still 5 months from now. Nontheless, the loyalty bonus was for renewing from todays date to 2 years down the line 5/2012. It must be completely different from the phone upgrade because the lady I spoke with was adament that I'd still have my full phone upgrade eligibility.

Sorry if already posted or that is is from another sight. Just passing along some info.
