Wow, this is sweet. +1 for Motorola Droid. Alright, I am getting this phone.

TomTom, Garmin and others will be out of business with this new addition because a separate GPS hardware is not needed anymore. Nevertheless, it may take a few years to complete the application, as we see how slow is Google acting with basic functionallity issues. Google maps need to run off-line; once it is done, our phones will be much better than standard GPS units that work outdoor only.

Umm... What about navigating in areas where you don't have data coverage? Sure, Verizon Wireless has arguably the most complete coverage, however... it's not 100%. I'll keep relying on TomTom for my motorcycle, but now I won't have to keep moving my Rider to the car![]()

I don't think so. I just took a short two-hour trip through the mountains. I ended up getting lost and had to wait to get back into the next town with cell coverage to figure out where I was on the map. That wouldn't happen with Garmin.

this phone will require a smartphone data plan, which includes VZ Navigation so if it gets spotty, just start VZW's nav.. it's included in the plan. Not to mention that there will probably be free map updates as opposed to TOMTOM/Nuvi/Garmin's pay-for updates
