Fantastic! I'm very happy for you. If you ever have another taste of cola you will be amazed at how you have lost a desire for that taste and wonder how the attraction ever existed. Cola free..... so happy for you.

Water, water, water. I grew up in Phoenix and you never leave home without it. I get confused when I hear someone say "I don't like water". That just doesn't compute and I would rather have it over a diet anything.

I'm honestly surprised more people haven't read it*... But then again I'm surprised about a lot of things people haven't read.

(I suspect that if you want to have a proper conversation about the contents of the text, the Politics and Current Affairs forum may be the place to do it)

*before anyone gets all hot under the collar, I said read it..... once you've read it, then you're able to have a valid opinion about its contents...

@psionandy I think there are probably more on your side of the pond that have both read and understand the nature of its contents. As it was taken very seriously by those facing imminent threat. Definitely not trying to start a political debate. Especially not with a bunch of Communists, Fascists, or worst of all 'Muricans. :D

Edit: I consider myself a/an 'Murican.
Just wanted to clear that up.

Message received, understood and I think there's no room for confusion there.

But yes, I'm surprised more people haven't read it.... And for the same reason, I'm surprised that more Europeans* haven't read the American Constitution. The Magna Carta** is a bit more tricky (as there are different versions) but everyone should read that as well. I also just assume that everyone has read "Macbeth", "1984", "The Bible", "Brave New World", "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and "The Tiger who came to Tea".

Now, I'm aware there are MASSIVE gaps in stuff that I should have read, but haven't....
Its 2017 and I have a resolution to read more books....

So, what's anybody's list of things that everyone should have read (but I might not have)?

*disappointed when I come across American's that haven't read it

** Did she die in vain?

I think maybe some Mark Twain is in order. Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn come to mind. I good glimpse into the culture of the Southern US. And they're independent attitudes. Kind of like your people "Beyond the Pale".

I'm definitely a fan of Mark Twain... but i've never read the Huck Finn stuff (partially because of an awful TV adaption that I was forced to sit through.... waiting for the 'good programs' to come on when I was a lad...

But yes, its an excellent example of what I was thinking about. And as its free in the Kindle store (and also Project Gutenberg) I've added it to my library...

I'm a citizen of the Earth. If we don't have that, we have nowhere to go.
