Reviews and full specs?

It sounds like the HTC Sense UI is a lot more than fancy widgets. I didn't realize HTC implemented the multitouch on the Sprint Hero which I had for a couple of weeks. It also had tap to focus with camera like the iPhone 3GS. I read on another site that the Droid doesn't do either.

Why didn't HTC make this device? Looks like the solution will be waiting for HTC to come out with 2.0 devices. I hate waiting.

Multitouch only works in some apps on the HTC Hero. I would suggest waiting till you get some full reviews before making conclusions on what this phone can and cannot do.

BGR said there was no multi-touch but it is in the GSM vid. I'll wait to accuse them of hiding something when I have seen the truth for myself.

What video was that? Where is the link. Multitouch is not on any official spec sheet or in any hands on video I have seen for the droid. BIG misstep for verizon and Moto if this screen does not do multitouch.

Side plug micro USB port sucks as well. Too fragile and not as easy to find a cable if you are out and about and need a charge. Ruins portrait oriented docking as well. Pre did this to push everyone to their insanely overpriced touchstone charger.

the droiddoes.com website lists multitouch with no further details.

This is the video people are talking about. It clearly shows somebody using multi-touch to zoom in and out in the web browser on the Droid. BUT this is also a GSM version of the phone AND it appears to be an earlier build of the device. This is not the final US Verizon version of the phone. And it is also apparently running on an Apple IIe processor because it's dog slow and laggy... so I'm not sure how much we can trust this video.

Yes you are correct. It is hard to see since it is in the smallest lettering, hopefully they are not mentioning it for some legal reason with apple, but hopefully it will have Multitouch!

Yeah that video is TERRIBLE. but prob confirms it def has multitouch. Now about the processor Arm Coretex 8 ia believe has all processes on chip so there is no Iphone 3Gs / Palm Pre TI processor with separate GPU, which would seem very misleading when the ads say how much faster the droid is supposed to be. Is there no dedicated GPU?

Android 2.0 is supposed to have multitouch and pretty much all capacitive screens allow for it.

Honestly, multitouch is overrated. You can't pinch zoom while holding the phone in one hand. I like having both multitouch and buttons.

It seems like HTC is skipping the 600MHz Cortex-A8 based phones all together for the 1GHz SnapDragon found in the HTC HD2 and Android version(probably called the Dragon).

Buttons + multitouch is good I wouldn't say multitouch is overrated at all.... just in gaming alone it is huge

I didn't really think about gaming...and I don't think people are really talking about gaming when they're talking about multitouch.

People just make a big deal out of multitouch...it is nowhere near that important imo. I care more about functionality and features of a phone than the difference between pressing a button and using two fingers to do something.

My big issue with multi-touch is zooming in while web browsing. I am a WM internet explorer and Opera user and I cant stand the zooming or touch screen interface with either software. My iPod Touch has multi touch zooming in Safari and I have far less accidental clicks on web page links.

I know that i can compare WM or Apple to Android 2.0 until I use it.

IE Sucks. Opera is okay, but we're getting an Android specific version of Opera soon(There's the generic opera out on the market now, not bad but not awesome) which hopefully will be pretty nice. I like Opera's compression that lets pages load faster as I'm on AT&T and have no 3G.

Android's default browser is pretty great already and there are addons for it too that make it even better.

I have multitouch on my G1. I don't use it for anything other than novelty because you can't use multitouch when using the phone in one hand which I quite often am.

As long as there is no on screen ghost zoom bar like in Opera I will be happy. My issues may be device specific with my Omnia.

I'm not quite familiar with the "ghost zoom bar" you're talking about. In the stock browser, when you move the screen in the bottom right a +- button appears and the bottom left a fullscreen button appears. It goes away after a second or two.

Are you talking about Opera or Android?

On my Omnia if you drag your finger up or down on the right side of the display it zooms in and out. This wouldn't be so bad if it actually worked when you wanted it to and not when you are just browsing a web page.

I wont really miss multi-touch zooming in the browser at all if it isn't there. I can get where I want very quickly on web pages on my standard G1 browser. I thought the pinch zooming was a really cool thing when I first saw it... but it is kind of a typical I-Phone feature. It's very flashy and very 'cool' but in the end.. is it super functional? I'm not convinced. And can the same thing be done even better in other less-flashy ways? Yes (I think so ).

But multitouch for gaming is a significant argument. Gaming is big on the I-phone and should be big eventually on Android too. The Droid has a physical keyboard so it doesn't need multi-touch for gaming really... but any future Android phones which could be used for gaming should have multitouch built in... because people are going to want to use a control pad and push a button at the same time. It's a requirement for some games.
