Does WD40...

Yes, if you're really that cheap. Or rub your finger behind your ear and then smear it on the offending door hinge. Butter also works, well as does earwax, shoe polish or a candle. ;)

Top money saving tips! :thumbsupdroid:
Although this does mean not washing for several days.

They have this now,lol;

A 750 CFM Fart Fan works better:D

Anywho - on the squeeky door - I'd use pretty much anything that's not WD40.

Spit - works well for other lube needs
any cooking oil
furniture polish
etc.

However if you are buying a can of something please get you some PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench. Otherwise another good product for slickness and dirt rejection is bicycle chain lube that is loaded with PTFE. Not cheap on the per oz. scale but a little goes a long way

OH and historically WD40 - which stands for water displacement formula test number 40 was meant to be a corrosion inhibitor for electrical contacts back in the early days of NASA. It was however determined to be particularly useful in preserving metal surfaces and ended up being use as the rust inhibitor to coat the outsides of Atlas Missles. And supposed in some places on the Delta Rockets.

just you know FYI

NO cost options?

son - opinions are free. right answers though - start at 20 bucks.

meanwhile. What do you have at the house now - I mean I need to know that you're working with.

Example - Baby oil - would work OK. Lubes (if I have to spell this out and you're over 25 perhaps you're a lost cause) would work fine too. Soap would work for a while - preferably bar soap rubbed on the hinge pin. Which would require pounding out the hinge pins - do so one at a time please.

Speaking of which - If's it's a loud squeak - and constant - you probably should remove the hinge pins anyway. clean the metal fillings off them - apply the coat of ? on this and reinstall. Meanwhile if doing this please use a grease on them not just an oil. If you can. But again soap ain't bad - or candle wax.

I use Motorkote spray. It works much better than WD-40. Anybody ever used the Motorkote that you add to your oil? I'm always skeptical about oil additives, but the truckers on the radio swear by the stuff.

Those additves are generally snake oil, and either do nothing or can be detrimental. Years ago there was Slick 50 which was eventually found to clog oil pickups with flakes of Teflon. Most vehicle manufacturers specifically advise against using oil additives in their owners manuals, you're better off doing regular oil changes with a good quality oil (preferably synthetic as long as it's ok for your vehicle).
As for WD40 it certainly has its uses, it does stink though and takes a while to wash off your hands. PB Blaster is also great for freeing stuck fasteners.

My dad used to swear by naval jelly for freeing fasteners.

...don't know if you can even get that stuff anymore.

OK.. As someone who's learned the hard way about WD40 and seen even worse happen to others when skateboarding..
1- WD40 is actually a cleaner, not a lubricant because it evaporates and leaves nothing usable behind. Any use of WD40 as being a lubricant becomes moot
2- I use this for many things, especially Skateboard bearings and tools.
